I wonder ... At what point in Facebook/Microsoft's history was it justifiable to say that they were going to dominate the market so entirely that every other entry was destined to be a chimp, not the gorilla?

At Stormpulse we also bake the cloud layer into the base tiles.

My educated guess is years from now if ever. There's no worldwide severe weather dataset, so any foray into that market would look half-baked or worse, biased towards first-world countries (ie nations with good metereological data).

Have you seen Stormpulse? Our goal is to eliminate information overload even when the weather gets nasty.

Have been waiting for this since early 2005. Now I wonder when they'll take a stab at severe weather.

Can they be given a task that requires additional research, training, or creativity? Example: What if I sent you a dental xray and asked you to report cavity count and location? This would require minor training but could easily be done by

Experimentation isn't sufficient justification. The boundaries of Jonathan's experiment were already set, and this doesn't honor those boundaries.

Last time I went to Startup School (2007) Drew Houston was just an attendee hoping to get into YC. I still remember him telling be about this syncing thing ... sounded like it just might work.

Oh I have no idea. I have had the privilege to see a little behind the scenes there and I'm not aware of any weaknesses, really.

Bloomberg is an incredible company obsessed with quality. The TV channel is great; their terminal is downright mind-numbing.

Humbling way to start the work week. I could produce the fizzbuzz solution and in my sharper days the recursive backtracing one, but definitely no further.

$8 billion valuation ... That's 40 times the $200 million in yearly revenues that equity research firm Hudson Square recently estimated Twitter takes in.

That's an overgeneralization. The Old Testament is littered with examples of the Israelites failing in battle because God was not with them at that particular time. But He was still their Jehovah.

Ironically "AirBnB: Crimes committed against a host" reads much more factually than the original title, which is much more editorial in nature. Compare: "Reggie Bush: Joins the Miami Dolphins" vs. "Signed: A football player's sincere belie

I started Stormpulse purely as a fun hobby project in late 2004. Incorporated in 2007. Can't share revenue numbers, but this year we should be profitable with a team of 5.

What if no one ever asks for the most important feature? We get a lot of feature requests, but the number one feature we focused on: "When the map loads, is it easy to know where the nasty weather is?" No one ever asked for that, but it's

Brilliant. The gem for me is the statement that a ton of small decisions creates a defensible moat perhaps even more formidable than adding features. (Biased opinion: After 20,000+ hours of work, Stormpulse is an example of this.)
