Not surprised to see this question, pretty surprised to see the answer (from David Cohen): http://ask.techstars.org/what-if-we-outsourced-the-developme...

His ability to grasp tech is missing the instinct that sees those numbers (re: the Twitter UI "bug") and immediately thinks "Oh, duh, ordered-list tag is showing numbers when it shouldn't be. CSS file error. Happens a lot when I use Fac

Yes. I had a colleague apply for TechStars and her takeaway from the interview was "he was really focused on where the business was." Doesn't seem in line with what I've heard about YC's primary interest (it's not the business model).

YC's greatest hack is identifying founder material based on technical rather than social proof (the YC app asks for an example of the coolest thing you've ever built, not an example of a cool person that thinks you are cool). This hack is

With Stormpulse we "launched" with a post on Hacker News that got us a whopping 200+ visits in a single day! Then we lingered at 50-100 visits per day for over a year. Then we figured out distribution (embeddable widget) and traffic is no

Very informative write-up. At Stormpulse we're already sending emails and are about to start sending SMS and phone calls via Twilio. I can vouch for the demand (it's high). Of course, folks still have to opt-in.

Novice question--wouldn't getting exploited require that I visit a site of ill-repute? Or, alternatively, is there some cross-domain element that makes this a threat even if I'm just seeing Flash-based ads on CNN.com?

I came across the list while searching for insight on value props (I'm at the "articulate your value proposition" stage of Four Steps). The end of the story is I just ordered "Delivering Profitable Value" off Amazon after being blown away

I can almost guarantee you wouldn't build an entire product/website/SaaS just because you 'smell an opportunity' in a market 'with more than even a few hundred customers', would you?

The addressable market is small? Doesn't every Fortune 500 company use dashboards in their operation and control centers? The market is ripe.

Market dominance goes to the best-executed whole product, not the best generic product in isolation of market dynamics. Making the best product is only half the equation. Startups also need a market strategy that works.

That makes sense ... but of course even then, what would the total be? $300, $500, $1,000/mo? None of those numbers are exceptionally large are they? For a company the size of Kellogg's, et al?

If you don't mind graphical ads instead of text, you may want to look into Advertising.com (AOL). Good experience here (surprisingly high eCPM at times--many times higher than AdSense). Then again, our site performs better than most as fa
