You are right to point out that on a 27" screen, you would have to sit farther away. I am still on 10.4 though. One thing that bugs me is the size of the mouse cursor. It is too small for me -- I increase it and it all becomes jagged and ug

I use a 17" Macbook Pro. Generally the OS's font is okay. But when you are used to coding with fontsize 12, it becomes really small on my macbook. I use fontsize 13-14. It's big and looks really smooth.

Do you also remember the days before Google? When we had to literally submit our sites to Yahoo's directory, etc.? Good old days :)

Oh god I loved Server Side Includes. I ran a Tiberian Sun / Red Alert 2 site a years ago and had like 30-ish pages of content. Each had it's own navigation bar. Now imagine the time it took me update if I added a page or changed the navigat

I strongly agree with this. The sad reality is that some of us have deadlines to meet. I think this is an option that makes sense. Writing testable code to get the job done and meet the deadline and the unit tests come in later when needed.

I have been eyeing books for months now. Pro Javascript Techniques has been one of them. Living in a country where shipping costs as much as a book is hard.

In some cases this is impossible. I work for a company that uses a lot of internal applications that depend on old IE. Asking them to switch to Firefox is like asking them to shoot themselves in the head. A sad reality.

It is not only the pricing but the availability. I think, here (Philippines), people buy pirated DVDs because the distribution is so wide-spread. So if you sell cheap and legit copies and people have to go all the way out to buy, then chanc

I love this and wished that it was here in my country. A dollar is cheap even from where I am at. Here, you can buy pirated DVDs on the sidewalks for a dollar (USD). If there were Redboxes here, people would automatically switch from buying

I have tried to use Vim a few weeks back. It works great. I have the minibuffexplorer and NERDTree installed. So it was basically like an IDE for me. BUT everything goes downhill when the "window" arrangements are messed up. I am like, WTF

That's good to hear. I wonder how many start-ups would go all the way for the hassle of making all the arrangements in hiring someone from another country.

I am from the Philippines. No US Visa. Willing to travel anywhere. Do I have the slightest chance of getting hired from the HN posts?

I got so frustrated with the new FF3.5 + Firebug problems that I switched to Safari4. It has a beautiful Develop/Web Inspector.

For me, I would run to friends and family. I am a Catholic (like most Filipinos are) so if all hell breaks loose, I pray. ;-) My dad died a few years ago, right about the time I was starting to hack things myself. Personally, what got me th

I thought that the 13" inch Macbook Pro had the 6 bit display while the others had 8 bit :-/ If the entire MBP line has 6 bit displays, then why complain? I am a bit concerned of Apple's false advertising though. So my 2006-ish 17 Macbook P

I agree with the act of smoking makes me smoke rather than the cigarette itself. +5 for you on that statement. I enjoy it if me and my friends go out for a few minutes to smoke -- but when I am alone, it makes it less appealing, so sometime

If you are in a hurry and do not have the patience, then you will only get frustrated if you try to learn from scratch. I suggest you go with ready-made stuff - like for CSS, take a look at BlueprintCSS (it makes CSS a hell a lot easier) --

I am in my mid-20's. I still have a long way to go and I have lots of plans for the future. The thing I have learned so far is that we should all be responsible for everything we do. Be it your job, your small projects or even those quick s

Just my two-cents but I think there is too much content on the frontpage. It is a URL shortener and if it was my site, I would just put: - a logo - the 2 textboxes + 2 buttons - a very quick tagline / description of your service - the API

I feel the same. I am very familiar with the PHP functions -- php.net is the greatest -- but for JS, I'm a little weak. This will definitely make my life easier on the client side (+jQuery).

I love this. I live near the equator so the walls and the flooring would have to do away if this was built from where I am at. It would be to hot to live in if this was built in Philippines -- it would have to be built above ground and made
