Swapping to node.js doesn't solve any of their scalability problems. The problems they have to solve with scaling their current system will be identical to how they will have to scale stream servers written in node.

Redis is not just an in-memory database though. It's many things, of which persistence database (if you set it) is one. Although I disagree with the article, what this guy wants is what Redis seems to be heading towards, but as far as I k

The point of this article is that Redis cannot be the "one true datastore". By "one true datastore", he means that Redis is the only data store you need in the stack, because it has an append mode that persists data in memory to disk. The

I think the correct decision is to make a native shell that holds an HTML5 app for iPhone and Android. That does not require any additional developers to accomplish and you can track/save the state locally. That way it can be downloaded fr

What you are describing is not lazy-loading. The purpose of lazy loading is to avoid the overhead of having to load all your javascript immediately at the cost of more server requests later on as needed. The benefits of speed gained from l

The fundamental problem with this article is that the author brings up a problem, but does not offer a practical real-world solution. The article only pretends to offer a solution. A List Apart is well known for helpful and practical solut

The setup for this plugin is too complicated. See: https://github.com/blueimp/jQuery-File-Upload/wiki/Setup I think the API and abstraction should be better thought out to be just 1 js file include instead. Other comments: Good use of Fil

Exactly. It's not hard to pinpoint the exact line of code that is causing the slow down and come to a conclusion. This could have easily been fixed without reverting to jQuery 1.4.2 and risk breaking other things in the process (assuming t

If Firefox wasn't supporting h.264, it was kind of pointless for Chrome to support it as well. As a developer, I have to have to resort to flash for h.264 anyways as Firefox has a much bigger market share than Chrome.

Therefore it is important to use tokens. Another way (or in addition to using tokens) is to not expose hard delete functionality to the front-end period. One thing I've done is to create a 'recycle' table in the database with a unique ID. A
