I'd narrow it down a bit—live in a cheap part of Brooklyn so you can actually meet your agent face to face because they almost invariably live in Manhattan. Even better, live in an artist warehouse in Bushwick so you have other people aroun

NYC is not as expensive as people make it out to be but it IS expensive. It's not just rent, though that's quite a bit of it; it's also the price of food and entertainment. I'm not saying that there isn't a ton of bargains out there but it

Hasn't stopped American Apparel. Not to mention actual high fashion brands who arguably have more to worry about with seasonal differences in fashion. Then again, I'm no expert.

Bingo, I can't believe that a US ice cream chain would have any chance of displacing any of the a-ma-zing local gelati shops. The Gap, Victoria's Secret, and Forever 21 will probably do just fine though. //edit: Oh yeah and how frickin' sho

At my last company (that's still going, I've just sold out and moved on. . . ) I used Lua for the lion's share of our kiosk content distribution platform. It was perfect, especially considering how many times we had to dip down into C or C+

I actually quite like how the associations are named the same as they are in ActiveRecord. It seems like it would make migrating to Mongo a bit less futzy-abouty than with MongoMapper.

Almost but not quite. This is textbook stuff in that it's actually using principals of wayfinding in built spaces. There's a great little research paper that goes into how we locate and orient ourselves in spaces http://www.spatial.maine.e

Cheers, thanks for that. I figured that was essentially the way to solve the problem. That said, I imagine that I'll be using a combination of both document stores and SQL databases on my next (largish) project.

I'm sorry but can you tell me how asymptomatic Herpes has a negative effect on one's life? Most people who have Herpes don't know it. Frankly the scare over Herpes and HPV has a lot more to do with shaming people who are sexually active. I

I guess an example of what I am talking about is a user's profile. Say I have a user account, which has a profile. That profile data is stored in a NoSQL document store. Now I want to get all of the profiles that are over 30 and match them

I have a question regarding this actually. I can see NoSQL style data stores being really well suited to things like sets of permissions or user profiles (where there are a lot of fields that may or may not be blank and/or arbitrary). Howev

Check the CDC site for info on herpes. Something like one in 5 people have it, that means if you're even moderately sexually active you probably do as well. The vast majority of the population is asymptomatic which is why there's such a sti

Frankly I think the UI of that tool is atrocious. Balsamiq Mockups is what prototyping software should be like, it's simple and intuitive. This looks like it would be a pain to use, given the choice of ForeUI. Frankly, I'd rather use Illust

Actually, the commas inside the quotation marks is an American English thing. Regardless of logic it's completely consistent with usage in the States. In the UK it's not. That said, where to place the commas, full stops, and semi-colons is

Exactly, how can they leave out the LES and SoHo? It's not like those are marginal or border-neighborhoods. That struck me as a very odd decision.
