Kratom is fine and all but I'd hardly describe the high as "mild". I'll take it once every few months but not more often than that primarily because it feels way too nice (much of the reason why I've not gone beyond

For me the most important part of writing longer, novel-length pieces is the organization help that Scrivener gives me. So far it's my favorite tool and as cool as this might be I'll remain skeptical until I see the final product.

You know what worries me about this? Not free speech because that's a dumb line of argument. What bothers me is that these companies are inadvertently teaching a bunch of nazis how to use the dark web by pushing them out of the public

Pretty much completely jives with my feeling for the place after spending a couple months traveling through it.

Shouldn't calling `preventDefault` on an event marked passive throw an exception? It seems sloppy not to but maybe I'm missing something.

I remember reading RAW back when I was 19 or so. I think it was the Shrodinger's Cat Trilogy, then the Illuminatus! Just amazing stuff. And a massive piss take on the post modern novels of the day. Kallisti!

Sigh. That's the most obvious of knee jerk responses and the most naive. I hear stuff like that a ton from people who are chasing that old illusion of authenticity. 16 months on the road through the backwaters of SE Asia and India as w

That's precisely my point. Except that SE Asian expats are boring af on average. There are exceptions to be sure (I made several good friends while traveling) but on average they're shockingly boring, but they're as good as y

Stay out for a year or so and you will likely want to mingle with some westerners. Or maybe not! Everybody's different.

That's kinda what I did. I wasn't head down on trying to build something, but I did write a novel while we were traveling, along with some freelance. We'd travel, moving from place to place frequently, then settle in somewher

Sure! Lifestyle businesses are great, and so is the whole digital nomad thing (I spent all of 2016 and a good chunk of 2015 traveling around the world). There are a ton of upsides but I wouldn't go back to it full time. For one, it

For pretty _amazing_ sci fi that I just stumbled on, NK Jemisin is amazing. Her Broken Earth series is not only tremendously gripping, original, and epic in scope, but it also does a fantastic job of portraying a world with predominantly no

Thailand is _very recently_ a much more wealthy country than it was even twenty years ago. The per capita car ownership has certainly gone up drastically in the last twenty years, particularly on the islands and more rural areas where the p

Ahhh safety, driving, and the developing world. Ugh. I haven't tested the hypothesis but I think the switch from mopeds to cars has resulted in a huge number of traffic fatalities. This was super evident in Thailand as it's quite

Sure! But if you're going to make animal cruelty laws, at least make it illegal to be cruel to animals. I'd rather be butchered and eaten than spend my entire life in the hot sun, tied to a post through my nose, eating garbage.

I find it laughable that rules against animal slaughter in India are being made based on cruelty. This is in a country where cows (though supposedly holy) are treated horribly. Cows in every part of that country can be found: * Grazing on g
