in fact, to my surprise, I've just tested our app (v0.10.x in production) on v4.0.0 and all our unit tests pass, the server works... I'm amazed. A single module had to be bumped (Elasticsearch@8) while we directly rely on 50+ thir

I can understand how a very logic/scientific mind could have difficulty with the concept of luck. Citing literature may not help. Let's say there's some stochastic mechanics at work, randomness more than 'luck'. Luc

It looks pretty clean to me to have dedicated intel servers with lots of memory and local disks for DBs, and workers that can be easily started with an API! We are currently running on online's dedicated intel servers (among others), b

But... Scaleway is a spinoff of Online.net which offers fine (and cheap) dedicated Intel servers. I don't know (yet) the ping between Scaleway and online.net but it's probably low enough to allow scaling "workers" on ARM

When dealing with privacy, they're definitely saying what's wrong. Right to be forgotten. Retribution of newspapers for headlines... That's not about competition. Not at all. Also, Google is not a monopoly. There are plenty o

How many Europeans use Google? 90%. That's democracy: the people of Europe gets what it wants. When Europe says "we'll fix what's wrong with Google", do they want to convert the last 10%? If not, then it has nothing

Coercion is most often the perspective of violence. Why would Google pay fines then? Because violence will be applied to make it comply even if it's a foreign entity.

For a long time, countries agreed that free-trade was the best way to avoid another war. Europe was created as an economic region first, to avoid another war. But today I'm afraid Europe suffers memory loss. They're using coercion

So why not pass a law for that? If the french and european governments really wanted more than piss off Google, that's what they'd do. They don't want to protect citizens, they just want Google's head on the mantelpiece,

I'm so ashamed... I'm french. Why don't people just ask the maintainer of the website to remove content? Why Google? I guess politicians don't get it, so "let's just blame the successful american company".

You can obtain some independence through software architecture, I agree... But it's no panacea. We thought ORMs would shield us from DBs change, then noSQL appeared. We thought 100 concurrent users were plenty and used 1 thread per use
