Wow! Reddit as a business does a disservice to mods by not compensating them for the effort they put in to keep these communities safe and functional. Also, this entire thing about the API has made me feel that there is a future for decentr

Sad to see those subreddits not participate. If things change and I'm back on Reddit, I'd love to get a list of subreddits that didn't participate and perma-block those.

Yikes! If they end up deprovisioning capacity and then some of those subreddits come back after 48h, the engineering teams are gonna be in for a rough couple of hours. I'm expecting that they have frozen autoscaling during this time.

This is a lazy comment, but just for completeness if others without context read the comments, I'll engage. There have already been multiple analysis done that no 3rd party client can survive this given the new pricing for the API. $2

I'm not opening the website, but sad to hear that the Kubernetes sub isn't participating. Reddit uses Kubernetes for it's infrastructure management, and it would have sent a message.

Just use it to understand what your manager's priorities are and how you can better align yourself to his interests. Working in big tech is basically being at the beck and call of your manager. Truly worked for some terrible managers i

Use a Mac (if you can afford it) or use the latest Ubuntu LTS. Using anything else doesn't make sense for most users, you will misconfigure or not update packages correctly which lead you to be more insecure.

Decentralization doesn't seem like a bad idea now? Only if there was a way to host websites where no central authority ever owned the data and the people who ran relays got paid in some form of cryptographically secure crypto currency.

$3500 is pretty cheap for the HW it provides. An iPhone 14 Pro Max starts at $1100 and has nowhere near the HW that this device has, let alone the economics of scale.

Why not update the API contract that if you use the Reddit API you need to render the ads? If you don't render the Ads they can come up with some pricing model. Seems like Reddit's pricing is designed by an MBA intern who just joi

Seems stupid to reward Reddit's decision. The $5 ends up in Reddit's pocket. I'd much rather fund a decentralized competitor to Reddit.
