Hi, author here! I totally agree there's a cost-benefit tradeoff to be made. I think the 510k process seems appropriate for low-risk devices like latex gloves and bandages. My concern is mostly around the class II devices cleared throu

Hi, author here! Completely agree, I would love to see the FDA publish an official dataset of predicate device relationships. I'm not sure if they have this data available internally, but if not, they could validate my dataset and repu

Hi, author here! That's a good point, I should probably add a disclaimer about what recalls mean in this context. Unfortunately I couldn't find a good way to determine whether the recall might be a systemic design issue that would

Author here! I didn't know about that Devices@FDA search, thanks for the tip! My goal for this project is to create a free/open source website that enhances this 510k data based on the public data dumps. I'd be very intereste

Author here! That's true, and I actually used that dump[1] and OCR to automate about 80% of this project. The manual data entry was only required for the 20% that couldn't be found automatically. Since this was just to fill in the

Hey ayocado, I have some experience with self-managed/self-hosted base maps. There are some modern tools that make the setup pretty easy (e.g. Protomaps, MapLibre) and you can still use a minimalist style similar to the CARTO one you h

For my use-case the PDFs are only a few pages long generally, so I think the 16k word limit would be well within my needs. I'm trying to find a list of device names from an FDA 510k summary (for medical device clearances). Currently I&

I'm pretty ignorant on which is the best self hosted LLM for such a task or how to fine-tune it. Do you know of any resources on how to set that up? It seems like llama2 is the biggest name on HN when it comes to self hosting but I hav

How accurate is an LLM for this task? I was thinking of using one for analyzing free form PDF text to find a specific element, but I was worried about hallucinations.

Does anyone know if this data is available in a structured format for the regions? E.g. geojson? It would be really cool to transform this into an interactive map on top of an OSM base map to make it easier to use. It looks like all the bou
