I recently made a small webapp to make me "touch grass". The idea behind it is that you enter some activities (or keep the random defaults), and when you are bored or doom scrolling, it call tell you what to do. It's a bit si

Apologies for the confusion! I meant that the data is represented as an image (of square pixels). But you're right, the actual land that each pixel represents won't be a square. The dataset just says "100m resolution", s

Yeah, I think using another data source for hospitals would be better, I'll look into using supplemental data as the other comment suggested. I suspect that hospitals are better represented than other POIs because their building footpr

I don't have a great data source for hospitals to cross reference, but I suspect hospitals are better represented than other POIs in OSM. Hospitals generally have very large and distinctive building footprints, which means "armcha

Thank you! The roads leaking is only an issue for determining the percentage of state residents within an area, because the regions also include out of state residents. But what you describe is another limitation of my approach. Currently,

Thank you! Being able to create interactive map visualizations without needing a server or paying for an API key is a real game changer! Big shoutout to the Protomaps project and all the other open source projects in the ecosystem.

Thanks! You're doing awesome work, I read the blog post about the insurance data mess you're working through. I'll see if I can incorporate that into my project! I'd love to see what this map looks like filtered for spec

For me, the label is just as arbitrary. I've taken the (self reported) test about 3 different times throughout my life and gotten 3 different results. I agree with the other comment that assigning a binary classification to a unimodal

Yeah that sounds like a good choice for managing complexity. Probably a trade-off with cost I'm guessing. For my project I was trying to get the cost as low as possible, since it's just a side project for me. Interesting point abo

OSM is really a dataset. They do offer a raster tile server, but it's intended to support community mapping (improving the dataset), and not necessarily for end users using a map for other purposes. Basically they want you to host your

Personally I felt more engaged with the story due to its narrative style. A lot of the corporate responses wouldn't have as much impact if they were stated more neutrally like "These 3 stock manufacturers declined to comment"
