I strongly disagree. The professor said that she was about to show the picture and people who didn't like it had the option to not look at it. It was a planned, extremely deliberate aggression from the student to make a point about her

I have no qualms with Muslims anywhere. However I despise fanatics be they Muslims or Christians or Jews or whatever religion. I hate equally the Talibans, the Ayatollahs, the Zionist far-right in Israel, the racist nationalist Hindus, and

Imagine the harm a group of those fanatics can achieve if one student can make a whole University comply to his intolerant whims. Karl Popper famously said that an open and tolerant society must manage carefully the intolerant... https:&#x

This is classical Persian Muslim art they're complaining about. Not Charlie Hebdo caricatures... Figure that, then weep.

This isn't Western art, it's classical Persian art, done by Muslims for Muslims. This is beyond stupid, it's plain fanaticism. These students should be sent to Iran or Afghanistan to get their feelings right. I have absolutel

Actually suicide by paracetamol is pretty easy, just gobble two boxes of it (150mg/kg may kill you: that's just 9 g for a 60kg person, less than two boxes of 8g each). You may need emergency liver transplantation. Plus it will oft

I obtained a similar effect with The Gimp and the wavelet decomposition plugin[1] that splits the picture in various layers containing details at different granularity. You can then simply remove the "bad" ones. On portraits, you

Exactly. I've used Keepass then KeepassX then KeepassXC, synchronized across devices with Dropbox then now Nextcloud. No problem, the whole database is safely encrypted, and nobody can access it but me anyway.

I have backups, thank you. My kdbx is in my Nextcloud, synchronised across my 4 PCs and Mac and my phone. So I have 6 copies (one on Nextcloud, and one on each device) at any time. Then I have backups on secondary storage (like external dri

Actually only Sony and Fuji make tape. All the brands use one or the other. However they use two different technologies (metal oxide and metal evaporate) so the general recommendation is to use both for long-term archive. I generally use HP

Unless you store your tapes right next to your cache of neodymium magnets, that should be pretty easy. Writing to a tape is very deliberate generally. Much more than writing to disks.

A RAID array isn't a backup. Your data is still live on it, an "rm -rf" away from destruction. HDDs fare poorly when shelved for a long time, RAID are even worse in that regard. OTOH a tape on a shelf is perfectly safe for 5

One thing I forgot to mention is the M format. Starting with LTO7 media used with LTO8 drives, if you label the tapes with labels ending with M7 instead of L7 the drive will format the tape when first writing it in the 8M format, adding 3TB

Nothing prevents you from using open source software with LTO, which is a multi vendor format. You can read tapes written with an IBM drive with a Quantum drive... LTO 8 tapes are 80$ or so, formatted as LTO8M in a LTO9 drive they hold 15TB

There's the very interesting new feature of LTO7M and 8M, which adds 50% capacity to your LTO7/8 tapes when formatting them with a - respectively - LTO8/9 drive. A 30$, 9TB LTO7 tape is the cheapest storage you can buy.
