Hate to be a hater, but I don't take anything David Pogue writes too seriously. He pretends to write impartially, but he's definitely very very pro-Apple. Aside from his article about the Mobile Me fiasco, I don't think I've ever seen him

Was interesting reading the reasoning behind the funky & vs. == precedence rules. I.e. the requirement of parentheses when writing: if ((a&mask) == b)

It essentially will be after everything's paged in. If you want to be sure though, create a RAM disk and stick your data files on there, though then you need to deal with system crashes on your own.

Windows doesn't support multiple versions of IE on the same machine without some hackery. But, if you're a Windows user and poor, Microsoft provides free virtual machines to test IE 6, 7, and 8. The images might work on other VMs too. Vir

That's an interesting find but he's not necessarily being hypocritical or deceitful. Ballmer could just think that the web apps Microsoft is announcing today are super awesome compared to Google Docs.

Do you really know that many people who hook a Windows Media Center to their main TV? I can count the number I know of on one hand. The Xbox is already pretty good for watching paid movies/TV shows, and will be pretty cool for watching Net

Quality can be as important as quantity. Slashdot traffic is notoriously bad... people view the content, often using an ad blocker, and then bounce without clicking any ads.

I used to ignore articles like this... "I'm not color blind so why should I care?" But, I've found that considering color blind users helps me design interfaces that have better contrast and are more quickly scannable, which ends up being
