> The future of journalism I can't help but laugh at this. All Svbtle does is slap a pretty, unified design on the articles of people that have interesting stuff to say. It's very good at doing that and I appreciate it for doing that. L

I feel like OP read a psychological / philosophical book and feels the need to share his newly gained insights. There's nothing wrong with that, of course, I just think it's not very relevant on Hacker News. The guy simply likes to be anony

The reason this works is simply because it stands out. Not a lot of people email other people mini presentations, which makes it stand out. This raises the chance something will be done with it. Just like regular marketing. I suspect that i

I don't think it's just aesthetics, they ask a lot of money for a new charger. And because they conveniently chose to use a patented charger thingy nobody else is allowed to make, you're going to pay them that bundle of money. I'm convinced

I still don't really get the problem. If a bug is recognised as such, simply don't implement it in the same way. If it's not, it's either a bug not previously discovered or intended behaviour.

From the comments here I understand you provide a ZNC bouncer. You should advertise that, as your target audience is interested in those kind of technical details. ZNC provides plugins as well, will I be able to use those? I'd advise you to

I know that, of course. The reality is that many people just use whatever their blogging engine ships, which often involves asking for an e-mail address and waiting until your comment has been (manually) approved by the author. The Hacker N

As a visitor, I despise self-hosted comment sections. I rarely feel the need to comment, but when I do, I don't want to give you my e-mail address (what the hell are you gonna do with it, anyway?), wait until it's approved by the author or

Here's the article I think you meant. I remember reading it, he comes across as a giant scumbag. He doesn't do a very good at justifying his behaviour, though, which I think is weird. Most people at least try to justify the things they do,

If you're a good/better than average UI/UX designer, you obviously know something that other people (including me) don't. It's your job to identify what that something is, your audience can't really tell you :) I find that often in things I

I wish people wouldn't upvote this. This is a javascript timer with some audio. People made this stuff in the 90s, probably even before that. You're on Hackernews, not the frontpage of Reddit.

That's very elegant. I don't recognise the language from the syntax. From what I understand it makes a new type called Color and defines a function that can do something with that type. Is that much different from making a class called Colo

I missed the point of this post. I felt like it was going to point out something Microsoft did wrong, but it didn't. Other than some publicity for the app, I don't know what this article wants to accomplish.

This does not belong in the top spot on Hacker News. Quality stuff is nice to own, woop-dee-fucking-doo. Just because Dustin Curtis wrote it, doesn't mean you instantly gotta hit that tiny little triangle. I very much doubt this little arti

I'd prefer a library that reads its parameters from HTML5 attributes (such as required, maxlength, pattern, etc). That would bring support for client side form validation to browsers that don't natively support it. Ideally this would be as

Though I agree with the premise that information isn’t consumed by quantity but by interest, I don't think there's anything wrong with providing a "tl;dr". In fact, it can be useful in most cases. I think it helps me establishing wether an

I didn't read this article because of its title. I think it is either a lie or a lie that's nuanced in a way to be technically true. Assuming the book actually was written in three days (planning, research, the actual writing, typography, e

I played around a bit with Scriptogr.am ( http://scriptogr.am/ ), it's basically a static blog generator that runs on their server. All you have to do is add markdown files to a folder in your Dropbox.

I recommend putting at least a screenshot on your landing page. Whenever I'm looking for software, I'd like a quick look at the UI to decide I want to try or not. If there are a lot of competing services, I tend to pick one that has UI prev

"Be as mobile as possible" is what this guy is saying. How do you do that? Avoid responsibilities in one particular place and only buy products you can't live without. Big deal. I don't see what's so special about it.

You can specify a folder you want to place the Dropbox folder in, but you can't choose a directory you want to act as your Dropbox folder. I'd like my Documents folder to act as my Dropbox folder. Perhaps I wasn't clear enough.

Syncing a single arbitrary directory would be enough for me. It would be very neat if I could simply sync the Documents folder on OS X instead of the Dropbox folder, which I use as my Documents folder.

I don't think so, it would still be audible when the signal L and R have in common is transmitted. Maybe if put at a low enough volume? I'm just guessing here, though. Definitely not an expert.
