Context is important in law. It's not illegal to change your mac address or wear a ski mask. It can be illegal to do both of these things while committing other crimes. I'm really sick of these sensational posts/comments showing up on HN.

You're acting like Ninite can be used to install and remove any crapware from any installation under the sun. In reality Ninite only works with a select handful of applications. In other words, Ninite does not solve the problem that compa

Ninite is great and has saved me time in the past. What exactly does this have to do with the article? Are you implying that since Y Combinator funded non-junk applications that it's okay to now fund junk applications?

I was just pointing out he had options. He could either accept 6-8 months or risk longer jail time in favor of getting found not guilty. He chose suicide.

Even good people fuck up. Aaron committed crimes and got himself in trouble. Aaron then killed himself. There are many people who could have done things differently to prevent this from happening but why should we point fingers?

Nothing is wrong with me, I'm just shocked at the amount of hero worship going around and complete ignorance of the facts of the case. He didn't just break the TOS and he wasn't charged with "hacking" as you keep referring to it. He was c

I didn't realize simplicity had anything to do with the severity of a crime. How hard is it to kill someone? How hard is it to download something on Pirate bay? How hard is it to stash a laptop in an unused MIT closet and write code to d

There's nothing ridiculous about claiming Aaron caused his situation and killed himself. There is a prosecutor, defendant and a judge. Prosecutors typically exaggerate their case, defendants typically downplay their side, and the judge is

Aaron wasn't murdered, he chose to kill himself. No need to be sensational. Who do you blame more? Aaron for getting himself in the position or Ortiz who was doing her job?

Why do you think this? It's certainly riskier but there have been many successful companies that start out relying heavily on a 3rd party APIs.

Where are you looking? I find it hard to believe you can't find any non-web programming positions, they're around. A quick search on monster.com shows thousands of them in America.

I'm not sure I follow. Obviously if my host goes down my entire site will go down - this is not the point. The point is that when my host is up, what % of the time will my site still be down? Well if you use a CDN that % is greater than

"Hands-off" approach is not censoring every bad article on Violentacrez. Hands off is letting users determine what goes to the front page.
