I'm gonna be a pedantic Portuguese speaker and point out that they should've named it Parceira. Amigo parceiro. Amiga parceira. To be clear, I mean to this lightheartedly. Great work!

I hope those products have enough customers that think the way I do. The reason I use and pay for Dropbox is that the primary focus of the company is to offer a product that syncs my files across multiple machines and keeps a copy of those

It's so weird because we go from being treated like children one year, to being treated like adults the next. There's no in-between.

I don’t think it’s taken for granted. Those complaints stem from fear of turning into a place like Turkey and other nations with strict censorship. If we don’t complain now, it may be too late later on.

Do you mind sharing in what space you work on? Just curious about where Common Lisp finds professional usage. It's not something you see every day. Also, do you have any tips on landing a Common Lisp job for someone who's already

I love it that it doesn't load by design if the referer is HN. For anyone wondering: yeah, you have to copy and paste the link. Don't click it, it won't work. n-gate is my favorite way to consume HN.

I’m that person in my current team and it feels very lonely. I keep speaking up about our tech debt and poor processes. Management pretends to care but nothing changes. Meanwhile people keep doing the rituals as you say, as if it were a nor

A number of folks in this thread seem to listen to Jordan Peterson's ideas, which seem smart and reasonable but are actually very toxic. See my reply to the post you were replying to. Thank you for being a voice of reason.

You are probably not wrong in your statements about biology influencing behavior, but in my opinion that kind of thinking ignores the fact that we humans are capable of recognizing all of that and acting upon it. We do not have to succumb t

That sounds like something the likes of Jordan Peterson would say. One of the best things my therapist did to me this year was get me off of Jordan Peterson. I was spiraling down in self-doubt because I listened to him so much. It’s one hel

Things are slow because of garbage bloated software. If devs stopped piling on ever more crap on existing systems and switched to optimizing their code, things would at least stay at the same performance or even gasp run faster.

I think the sweet spot for using Kotlin is to adopt it as "Java with nicer syntax." If you try to embrace the ecosystem, a lot of tools and libraries are still immature as other folks have pointed out. But if you stick to the exis

Do you have total freedom in how you use 20% time, or do you have to plan it out and tell your manager exactly what you're working on? My company tried doing the 20% thing but they put so much process around it that no one does it.
