I think its absurd to me how this is somehow seen as a novel thing. You say something awful in kindergarden, you will be suspended. You try and write something awful in an op ed to the local paper, and it won’t ever get published. You call

Not all of it is digitized. A lot of it is still only found on microfilm in larger libraries.

They don’t have to hire someone from Vietnam. They could hire someone from West Virginia for 1/4 the price of a SF developer a day after college. Maybe even less.

No employer is going to hand me another $400 a month because I need an apartment with another bedroom to serve as the office.

And we are seeing some employers adjust pay to location now too. In the end you are also subsidizing the office out of square footage in your home, and reaping none of the benefits such as socializing with people.

This is what I like about some American cities like Los Angeles and New Orleans. Not unexpected to come across a purple house.

At the top end its different. There are many top of line bikes that follow the vaporwave aesthetic now, including a trek worth several thousand.

In the U.S. car buying is much more like an old world bazaar than a modern transaction. Dealers might knock this fee off to get you to sign.

Thats been the case since the 1950s. But who buys that? Look on your craigslist for apartments and I bet $1000 you wont find any stove or fridge that isn’t stainless steel or white.

Moreso that the paints used two decades ago that you see faded now were crap even back then.

Anecdotally, I’ve never heard of getting a deal on a used car simply because its red or yellow. Mileage and by proxy wear and tear is so much more meaningful on price.

There are services like zelle but the daily limit is often too low to make a rent payment in a high cost of living city.

I tried doing this in college too but it broke down immediately. The way coursework and exams are conducted almost forces you to burn the midnight oil and sacrifice sleep for forcing another three or four things to memorize into your head.

A canon rebel and the cheapest prime lens they offer can be had for well under 1k and will take better photos than a phone. Can’t argue with the laws of physics, its much easier to get fidelity with larger lenses and sensors.

The counter argument is that it is a waste if you aren’t making full use of the difference in spec sheets. Its like buying a car that can go 200mph then using it to drive A to B at the speed limit, same as you can do in a honda civic. Phone

The only impetus for upgrading a phone for me is if it starts failing at being a phone. I upgraded my old SE to the new SE when it was on steep discount earlier this summer solely because my old one took a few tumbles in its life and was dr

You are still paying 1/3 the price of a new phone a year for that privilege, which is no small sum these days. Most people I know including myself are getting like 5-6 years out of their phones now.

I saw a road in my neighborhood go from trenches along the road to full storm drains and sidewalks, for seemingly zero reason but to let the existing owners appraise their homes for $10k more. The trenches were fine in practice and never sp
