Interesting, but won't ever use. It also seems that it is just wrapping typical queueing systems, which I would use anyways because this only supports the JVM.

The add-on that I've built has the provisioning system and server management portion on Heroku.

Use Heroku is the simple answer. Unless you have specific needs for background processing or do some stuff that is not in Ruby, use Heroku. This is especially true if you have not set up a production system before.

This is awesome. I've been waiting for this for a while.

Great response. I would say that developing on Heroku and Google App Engine drives practices that lead to the ability to scale. This can be done with any hosting provider, as long as you are ready and know what to do.

I agree with most of this post except that you should build to scale. Scaling isn't what you should be focused on. If you focus on this you will loose sight of the product you should be developing and responding to user feedback.

I don't fully understand Urban Airship. I find it really easy to do push notifications, especially for the iPhone. Why would I use this?

I had no idea! And I've been parsing them myself all this time.

The line `task "resque:setup" => :environment` in the rake file does the same thing. That way it will load the env on Heroku.

For me it was because I was unable to access the log files if a job failed since I was on Heroku. Also it gives me a general idea of how the system behaves; in one second I can tell if the system is normal. I can tell if I need to bump some

These are primarily messaging systems. I've considered using them before. Nothing, however, has come close to letting me do introspection like Resque does, and the best part is that I don't need to do any work to get it.

It is cheaper, but I don't think you are running an OS that will only use 12 MB of memory. This also doesn't include backups or system monitoring. And if you are EC2, well this just isn't an option if you are concerned about network latency

Redis is dead simple, but having another server isn't. While most people can easily handle this, managing systems can often spin out of control. If you are starting a project would you rather handle another server or just have someone else

Point number 2 for why not to use TC is not very strong. If you need help installing a database perhaps you need to learn a little bit more before managing a webserver.

That is great! But the point is that this a prediction into the future and is not a fact. A fact is something that you can prove, and you can not prove the future. If you can, come talk to me we can start a business :)

The apps that I have developed were so small and the requirements for the projects did not require it to be fast. I hope to do a few more projects down the road where speed will be an issue, but that is a ways away.
