This sounds very similar to the work places I've seen in Japan, too. Essentially those who don't work as much unpaid, voluntary overtime as others don't get promotions, get shafted on bonuses, and very passive-aggressively &q

Working in Japan for a Japanese company I hope to give some insight. I find most people in America that worked overtime felt that it was necessary to work because of all the tasks that needed to be completed. In Japan the overtime seems m

When I'm determined to do something I believe making a list is the most effective way to get work done. If I can make a concise, well-divided list of tasks I want to complete for the day I almost always complete it before the day'

> Lyft came to town Sounds like the parent is referring to his/her town. It's still anecdotal because surely the parent doesn't have that statistic but it very well may be the case in his/her town.

But Japan's not really full of raccoons. I've never seen a raccoon in ~4 years here and I've seen 30+ wild tanukis (up to 10 or so could have been the same ones). It also states in the article that Hokkaido has been killing o

I think a much better reason that people ditch their cars is the increased safety in the newer models. Very few cars had side air bags and a decent amount didn't have ABS 15 years ago. There are a lot of other improvements surely made

Never heard of it until now. It's an interesting concept and sounded a little far-fetched but considering there's a reddit subreddit with 128k users I will definitely try it out.

Don't worry the post didn't sound patronizing at all. I don't always have problems sleeping but I definitely believe I have a harder time than most people even on regular, mostly care-free nights. I definitely don't thin

This may work for you but it doesn't work for me and a lot of others. Particularly after a stressful day the basic "10 tips" etc don't work. I've "counted" 300 sheep and gave up. I've counted down fro

What I mean by solving "every" move is that the AI would be able to determine which trees are a "losing" state and not continue, removing well over 99% (or 99.999% I don't know) of the possible games. I guess maybe

Can't they effectively "solve" chess with the power of AlphaGo? Someone posted on the last thread that the AI plays one game of go every 2 seconds against itself to train (that's ~150 moves/second). Wouldn't ch

Given that there's only one flip left and you need 6 heads, he has a 1/2^6 or 1/64 chance to win. In go the last 8 moves is almost never going to make the difference (the last 20-40 moves in a game that doesn't end in re

You can make huge fundamental changes like "you cannot connect 3 stones in a row" or you cannot make a certain shape with your stones. There are 'bad' shapes in go that you learn when you're young that almost neve

How is this any different than the swipe to unlock pattern? If you go to a starbucks and sit down for 20 minutes in a higher seat, you can get the passwords to probably 2-5 phones depending on everyone's security and how crowded it is
