Everyone uses social media differently I guess, but in my case I almost exclusively follow and am followed by people who I know. I intentionally don't tag my posts. I love it this way. I get to see what my friends are up to, and share

Same here actually, except a bit later if I'm not waking up to an alarm, I will drift towards waking up at 1-2pm and don't have as much trouble getting to sleep. Even then I can easily make myself stay up later than usual, and wou

I always have a hard time going to sleep at a consistent time; it's much easier for me to stay up a couple of hours later than it is to go to bed even a half hour earlier. The two easiest ways for me to lose track of time and end up am

Do you have any links to case studies where this was tried and failed? Every example I've seen ends up being like my story, we did a half-assed version as a trial and it flopped so we gave up. I'm not denying the existence of time

besides haystack, needle vs needle, haystack, what do you view as so bad about PHP's standard library? The main critique I've heard is that it's so big, but it's hard to see that as a downside unless you're a mainta

Why does everyone think that the solution to traffic problems is to first make driving even more terrible and then oh yeah maybe get around to improving or even providing public transit? Why can't we swap the order, especially when it

None of these are things that directly lead to firing (aside: deadlines shouldn't just be handed down to developers, and deadlines shouldn't be so rigid there's no room for mistakes), of course you try to mentor and provide g

Yeah that's definitely a company culture thing too, breaking things at some places is considered terrible and the company would prefer a 5x longer development cycle for half as many bugs. But clever code usually takes longer to write a

If you hire enough people, eventually you'll have a bunch of examples for this question, unless of course you never make mistakes. Pretty much everything you can imagine can go wrong and probably more. Hiring anyone is always a risk bu

"You can’t build a decent modern application without frameworks." Bullshit, especially on the PHP / backend side. It's 2017, we should know how to avoid over engineering simple things.

Under sink RO is not a big deal, you can buy a system for relatively cheap at Sams or probably Costco, and there's not much that you have to know, just change the prefilters when you are supposed to. Depending on the bladder and how mu

False. It's relatively easy for SPAs to handle the back button gracefully, you can change the URL to indicate the state of the app and add it to the browser history, listen for url change events to then change the state, etc. Groovesha

I think SPAs make sense for a very limited set of applications. I worked on Grooveshark, which was an SPA by necessity - you don't want page refreshes breaking music playback. We had to do an insane amount of work to get initial load t

Why mysqldump instead of Percona's xtrabackup/innobackupex? I was under the impression that the latter had a lot of advantages and have been considering switching, wondering if there is a good reason not to.
