I was under the impression that this is more likely related to the reduction in lead in the air. At first glance that seems plausible. See murders by year[1] and the presence of lead[2], the timelines seem to match. [1] https://e

If "good" police are standing by and allowing "bad" police to get away with these things, I'd argue that they are complicit in the bad behavior and not so "good" after all.

I think there are many different reasons why this happens. For me, Delayed Sleep Phase Syndrome is a pretty ideal match to what happens for me naturally, which is to say that my body seems to be on a ~26 hour cycle. The WFH situation has no

I actually wasn't thinking in terms of abstractions although those can help too. Simple things like always validating your inputs, adding sanity checks and safety limits to your code, building in isolation, can go a long way towards ca

Human operators surely play a part sometimes, but there are systems which eliminate or minimize that and are still surprisingly reliable. I think people have learned to build resilience into their systems, which expect and anticipate failur

There are probably multiple ways but the way I read about is to use a pumice stone to scrape away the top layer of skin - doesn't hurt because the skin is dead, and then keep it covered with something like duct tape to prevent it from

I felt a bit awkward about bringing my kindle into a bookstore, but ultimately nobody cared. I've gone a couple of times (SF location), the drink selection is limited but not bad and it is a cozy spot to read for a while.

Tumors aren't healthy tissue. My guess is that an immune system on high alert in an area is more likely to notice bad stuff that otherwise gets ignored. One effective way to get your immune system to kill warts is to induce a low grade

It's hard to say without knowing how much you make, or what schools your kids might go to, but it is certainly possible. Many schools use FAFSA not just for federal aid but for determining how much "need" your kids have for o
