Offtopic I know, but this comment is exactly the type where seeing points on comments would be really useful. As it stands, I won't click this link because I have no idea if it's worth it, or worse some kind of scam.

Just like how at the beginning of this piece the author talks about how different his own experience is from what he is describing, many African Americans who grow up to be writers (or read HN for that matter) have had a different experienc

Collections.binarySearch() ? std::binary_search() ? Not saying I don't believe you, as there are times when it does come up but IMO even if you do have to write something search-like, it's usually better to do a linear search for the sake o

Even American citizens can be stripped of their basic rights after being convicted of a crime.

25 cents per 1000 calls? Is that a reasonable price? If you were to have an ad-supported page that requires a call to the DB then you would need to have 25 cents CPM just to break even.

Do you think no one ever told Usain Bolt "It doesn't matter how hard you practice, you're not going to run faster than $previous_record_holder"?

Commoditize Your Complements. Cheaper and more abundant Mac software improves the experience for users, which should increase the appeal of the platform. If it works then it should mean more money being spent on Mac software in the long run

The display ad ecosystem these days is very complicated. Displaying one ad might involve a call to a publisher ad server, an advertiser ad server, an ad exchange, and a third party ad network. There's no way for the ad servers to know what

Not only that, but Google was already using 4x the amount of office space in the building that DoubleClick was at the time of the acquisition.

It's not easy for everyone to catch a cab in New York, and unfortunately the unlucky ones are more likely to be going to "somewhere out of the way". Better to prohibit discrimination for all reasons, not that it helps me even though I live

I think many people outside of New York wouldn't ever consider an apartment share, but it's pretty common here. I live near Times Square in Manhattan and I'm paying $900 for a room in a (small) two bedroom apartment.

I received an NES with Super Mario Bros. for Christmas when I was in the second grade. I had decided that I wanted to make video games for a living by the end of the day. That didn't quite work out, but I'd bet there are a lot of developers

I had a hard time deciding whether to check the "Flex" box or not. I live in a 1 br/sort of 2br and I was trying to decide if it should be 1/Flex or 2/Flex. Should the number of rooms you choose include the sort-of/flex BR?

If you're making $25k * 12 = $300k just by working you probably have some kind of specialized skill. If everyone could do it, the price wouldn't be so high.

Without addressing your points specifically, you sound angry about the situation of race in America. Many people of all races have issues with the status quo. Some people express it directly, like for example taking longer to get your food.
