I could definitely see this paying off for the design community, help desk technicians or CS students (their numbers are one the rise).

Absolutely not. The closest thing I have to a degree is a few credits towards my Community College of the Air Force degree (an Associate's). Being involved in the open source community and being a wealth of knowledge surrounding your field

We recently switched to Python at work (and personally, I have a few projects at home as well). We opted to go with the web2py framework at work but I have been giving Django a long, hard look for some of my personal work.

I find that taking that break to smoke actually increases performance. Coding is a miracle for the smoker, and vice-versa. When working on a specific task within my code, I refuse to go smoke, wanting to stay in the zone and get all of my t

Your number of Twitter followers, compared to that of another user, does not make you more valuable to society. No one cares - you shouldn't either.

I thought it was pretty funny - kind of a novelty item, if the quality was hire (and funnier) you could probably charge for these. Ads would be kind of useless, your ads are going to be for real mapping solutions and I can't imagine people

My primary focus, for the time, has just been to not start talking until there is a breaking point in the conversation. I find that is what drives people up the wall the most - when they can't finish a thought because I am interjecting. As

What an awesome way to depict the game. I looked through it a few times, some of the highlights I noticed: 1. You could tell exactly when the commercials were playing and sometimes, which commercial (Hulu) for instance. 2. After the Cardina

I am, admittedly, one of those assholes. I don't characterize myself as rude (I keep my mouth closed when I chew, I stay away from others and doorways when I smoke, I hold doors open for people). But, if you get in a conversation with me, I

That's a really good idea - I may have to look into doing that. I don't place ideas in Backpack to keep them in the "walled garden" - it's just the most web-accessible, easy to use area I have for information of that nature (I keep losing s

Yeah, I guess it really depends on what your product is. I am merely thinking SaaS in my posts, but I could see a lot of other applications (and have purchased some myself) that take a different route. For instance, ExpressionEngine or the

It would be nice if they implemented the naming of commits as well, into their URL scheme. Of course, master would always work, but for instance - if you named a commit 'user-profile-complete' then you could use that within your URL as well

Okay... this isn't digg. We all know what happened, we've seen it everywhere else. This isn't interesting to the HN community unless it tells us how the subversion of the cable system was committed and how Comcast is working to prevent it.

Well, think about Backpack. It made the transition from being a personal data manager to being an "Intranet" platform. If you had charged a lifetime fee to start, and then done all of the work to make it the new Backpack, how do you convinc
