I don't know about noble! I just have this big empty space on the right side, and the layout looks unbalanced if I don't fill it. I do use text ads on internal pages, but I prefer images on the home page because they go well with the design

Update: I just received a very generous offer from Adpinion (a YC company). If your ad is selected then, in addition to the 2-to-3 week period your ad will show on my web site, you'll also get a $40 worth of free advertising on Adpinion's n

You'll be surprised. As you approach "perfect", the number of details for any given task increases exponentially. That's why perfect is unattainable.

I simply attended a lot of hacker/tech networking events to meet other entrepreneurs hoping to find a co-founder. And in the process, I met a lot of other people, some of whom turned out to be investors or working for investors. I also met

I'm experimenting with a couple of ideas to see if one has potential. If so, I might consider applying in October. I've received lunch invites from a couple of investors to chat further, but I don't need the money yet. I believe that I shou

You have a major flaw in your logic for Wildfire: the fact that "we associate with people who have similar tastes" does not imply that "we associate ONLY with people who have similar tastes". I'm interested in startups, but a few of my Face

If the startup is a consumer-oriented Web site that spreads by word of mouth, then a non-hacker can add little in the early days. A dedicated, entrepreneurial hacker is all it takes. With that said, there are a lot of hackers who are super

JavaScript in a browser doesn't give you enough low-level access to manipulate images. A good compromise is to build the UI in javascript, and have the image processing on the server. Then, use AJAX to give the user a nice and quick experie

You won't save on taxes because you pay where you're doing business. So, if your office is in California, or you hire people in California, then you'll have to pay CA taxes. At lease that's how it is in CA, AFAIK.

Not necessarily pictures, but a link or an email is nice to have on one's profile. Most readers don't even have that. Sometimes I'm surprised at people who declare that they're looking for co-founders and they don't even put a link or anyw

Kevin O'Conner, the founder of DoubleClick, answers your question very well in his book: "The Map of Innovation: Creating Something Out of Nothing". It's an excellent small book that you can read in an afternoon. He explains his brainstormi

My first impression: it's a feature, not a product. But after a little digging, I like their concept. If they successfully build a cross-blog comments system with portable karma, they'll help Web conversations be smarter.

Invest some and put the rest to good use to make sure you contribute to making the world a better place: research to find cures, charity to help those in need, or whatever good cause you believe in.
