I won't argue that the first example is cleaner, but both seemingly simple examples have a major issue. Lifetime. The observer pattern is notorious for being overly complicated in C++ because you have to ensure Observer and Observable

I'd say this is far from useless. Especially when building your own engine, you can look at other implementations and reuse elements that you need. The company I work for specializes in video game ports. Getting only the source code, w

Thanks for the link. I came across this, but other devs complained that isn't production ready (yet). Still, I am extremely grateful for all the work Ryan is putting into projects like this.

A question regarding the OpenAL dependency since this came up recently in a discussion (unrelated to LÖVE). Is it okay to use OpenAL (unmodified) on a "closed" platform like iOS, or Nintendo Switch as long as it is dynamically lin

I did some similar experiments some time ago. It includes Makefiles, Rakefiles, SASS, Ruby erb, Jade, m4, and a few other tools. https://github.com/W4RH4WK/static-page-generators Over all, I quite like Ruby since it co

I have a Valve Index, a big enough room, and everything set up ready to go. Still, I hardly ever use it. My problem is simply that most VR games are too janky to control. Half Life: Alyx and Boneworks stood out as they were acceptable -- bu

Are there benefits of using this Optional and Result type over std::optional and std::expected if one is already using C++23? The drawback I see of using a third-party solution for this is interoperability with other libraries. Rust's

IMHO: no. The concept of a loop (i.e. doing something over and over as long as a condition is true) is (again IMHO) a much simpler concept than recursion. The university I worked at tried moving functional programming into the first semeste

I wonder how much the pile of undefined behavior contributed to C's success. I can imagine that vendors picked C over alternatives due to C giving them more freedom with their implementation.

The Switch supports Vulkan, but it's also quite old at this point. Nintendo will probably release a new console in the near future and we simply don't know whether that one will support Vulkan or not.

I'd say even Vulkan alone is sufficient to cover Windows. The main benefit of DirectX 11 is that it's a lot simpler for the developer. But when you are creating an abstraction layer for multiple APIs, you are not the target audien

For instance, last time I checked them out (in MSVC) it was perfectly fine to expose an un-exported type via an exported function. Apparently this is by design. In Rust, such a thing is an error. https://play.rust-lang.org/?

Looking at these numbers, being from Austria, yes, I'd say they seem pretty accurate. It's even worse over here ^^.

I don't like the Nintendo Switch because it's not ergonomic as a handheld and doesn't perform that well in docked mode. Also, I can't simply backup / transfer saves :(

I am sad that a great game like this is held back by being a Switch exclusive. Of course I know the whys, and that you can emulate it, but still. I just don't like Nintendo, nor do I like the Nintendo Switch.

I actually enjoy the monthly release notes. Usually, most of the features do not affect me, but sometimes there are one or two gems that really make me appreciate the active development on VSCode.

Wasn't this the tablet they bricked (for a lot of people) with an update? I remember encountering multiple that no longer booted, and trying to unlock the bootloader caused the device to hang during the deletion of the user partition.

This looks actually really nice! I especially like the debug functionality being treated like a first-class citizen, emulating VSCode's panel layout. I might actually be using this in the future. :)
