I've always found Midnight Commander to be underrated, perhaps because it "looks old". I still recommend checking it out if you want a terminal-based file manager. In case you do prefer GUIs, consider DoubleCommander.

Huh. No I've not used FreeCAD since 1.0, guess I need to have another look.

What's your experience with FreeCAD? I've tried to use it multiple times for architectural stuff or 3D printing and never managed to put together anything usable. I switched to Sweet Home 3D for the architectural stuff and DesignS

Ok. When will we get the laptop with AMD CPU that is on par with a Macbook regarding battery life?

Interesting. Apparently browsers (at least Firefox) uses the OS' setting for this. I still have animations enabled in Windows 10 due to how windows are rendered when they are opened, but the content isn't painted yet. However, the

My rule of thumb: if the user has to wait for the animation to play out, before they can continue, remove it. And, always provide an accessibility option to turn off all animations.

On the topic of Arch wiki, I know there are a couple of offline and cli / tui solutions. Which do you use and recommend?

Well, because hardly any of my friends are on Matrix. Most of them tried it at some point, but it doesn't stick as the user experience just isn't there.

I don't. I use Firefox, on desktop and mobile. (Sorry, I should have mentioned this since OP is Chrome related.)

Halo 1 featured a custom physics engine sometimes called Chucky Physics due to its creator Charlie Gough. Bungie switched to Havoc in the following titles. I completely agree that the Warthog in Halo 1 felt the best, by far.

We didn't create this code base ourselves, we are just working with it. I'd assume the original developers payed attention to compile times during development and introduced forward declarations whenever things got out of hand. M

From my experience, compile times ain't an issue if you pay a little attention. Precompiled header, thoughtful forward declarations, and not abusing templates get you a long way. We are commonly working with games that come with a cust

Out of curiosity, do you have some pointers for getting into C# for these kinds of projects? I've only used C# for standalone win32 applications and inside of Unity. I am familiar with low-level game engine stuff in C/C++, but alw

Please correct me if I am wrong here. From my understanding, using LGPL v2 code in console releases is fine since v2 does not have a tivoization clause (i.e. even if the end-user cannot re-link the program because the platform is locked dow

Yes, certainly! I've encountered and used this pattern in Python, Ruby, Haskell, Rust, C#, and maybe some other languages. It often feels nice to write, but reading can easily become difficult -- especially in Haskell where obscure ope

We've transitioned all of our Bash scripts over to Ruby and are pretty happy with it. We almost exclusively use only Ruby's standard library. 'fileutils' and 'rake' have a bunch of nice functions to replace Bas

I've never respected the 'don't use GLOBs' recommendation with CMake and had practically no issues. They even added CONFIGURE_DEPENDS to ease the process. To me, the arguments against using GLOBs here seem too constructe

In the realms of Windows and game development you primarily use Visual Studio Solutions / projects with property sheets. The underlying build system is msbuild. It is less powerful than CMake and has a relatively steep learning curve d

But what does that give me? Why would I need to simulate color blindness in an already released title? In my opinion that's simply a developer tool. What would've been more useful here would be a color blindness compensation filte

Well, I am in game development and all of the issues I listed above are actual problems that we encountered either in the past or still wrangle with today. Especially locale-dependent functions are a bitch on Windows. Edit: one more thing I

Probably not as the way things are defined in the STL is often not in line with what C++ programmers want for their code base. STL adheres to zero-cost-abstraction, which often puts safety in the backseat. Many programmers, myself included,

It has been a while, but back them i cobbled together a pipeline using Pandoc [1]. Back then, I wrote my master thesis with this [2]. While the primary output is HTML, PDF is supported as well. [1]: https://github.com/w4rh4w
