The parent is not wrong, coming up on two decades in this industry(and much more to keeping before that), the number of times I've encountered a binary tree is near zero. Only thing close was BSP trees in some engines we've licens

Not yet although I've been considering it. There's a lot of things that are really handy but not easily searchable(like din rails, they're the lego blocks of industrial automation) which I think would be neat to aggregate in

It's a neat project, we added solar based watering to our greenhouse and having grafana as a dashboard was super handy. Renogy's Rover MMPT chargers speak modbus over rs232 so you can interface it directly with a PLC or other indu

That depends a lot on platform and engine. X360 development was still one of the best damn environments on dedicated hardware I've ever worked on. PIX was nothing short of amazing and Visual Studio is still a bar I haven't seen to

Isn't that what cloudkey/dream machine covers though? The people who provision the types of systems we're talking about are the same that are familiar with how to spec server hardware. I had no problem with unifi-video, in fa

Pretty torn on this one. Really wish I could host Unifi-Protect on prem with my own hardware. Most of their dedicated hardware doesn't even offer raid or decent backup solutions. It's really a shame because everything else UBNT do

Yeah, I do this with my Kubota L4760 and a PTO generator, runs the house just fine on a similar sized generator. This is probably even a bit better because you have an inverter decoupling the mechanical load compared to needing to have a la

One notable exception from that list is the PS3. That thing was a real bastard to write for but if you managed to vectorize things properly it did really go at a good clip. One fun thing was optimizing for the SPUs meant that your code was

I've always heard of it as "third system syndrome". You screw up the first one(prototype), learn from it and build the second one(product) and then get overconfident, expand into unknown areas and repeat the process(third sys

Yup, delta compression and potential visibility sets are also a huge win as well. The best thing is to design your gameplay to be "predictive", that's how we had ~300 player games like Subspace over 28.8/56k way back in

Oh haha, memories. We had a co-founder who pulled an "April 2nd" joke about 1/3 of the team being let go because of a non-poaching agreement between their old publisher and the studio. Kept it going for about 15 minutes until

Probably? There is a fair bit of overlap between cable/fiber and radio in that both are mostly QAM, multichannel based. Radio tends to have a worse SNR and a couple other tricky problems tacked on top.

Oh man camera systems. We had one dev and an animator spend months getting our camera system to the point where it felt natural. Definitely one of those things that takes a ton of work and only gets noticed when it goes wrong.

The world writeable cross thread also has implications on how your GC algorithm is designed. Erlang for instance scopes gc pools per process so short lived processes just drop the pool. Also GC of one worker doesn't stop any others. Ca
