I was trying to show someone a scene from a 45-minute YouTube video the other day. I didn't know where it was so I was randomly choosing points to watch. _Every single time_ I clicked on the scrubber I was hit with a 30-second advertis

This is a funny comment because startups have been churning out sub-3 year "seniors" for years. If you're not a principal engineer after 5 years what are you even doing?

The problem with this approach is that you might lose important context which is present in the documentation but doesn’t surface through the LLM. As an example, I just asked GPT-4o how to access Nth character in a string in Go. Predictably

I spent a good part of yesterday attempting to use ChatGPT to help me choose an appropriate API gateway. Over and over it suggested things that literally do not exist, and the only reason I could tell was that I spent a good amount of time

It is incredible seeing people like you defend the administration when there's new executive orders signed every day that push your country further into the stone age. We're witnessing North Korea-level brainwashing at a never bef

The button to hide shorts now says something like "Show less" instead of the 30 days it had previously, and clicking it does absolutely nothing. It disappears from the current page but comes straight back after a reload.

A large investment bank I worked for blocked every URL that ended in `.go`. Considering I mostly wrote Golang code it was somewhat frustrating.

Are you actually arguing that using a JSON parser for JSON-formatted data is a premature optimization? The solution here was to use a different format, not a somewhat-JSON-compatible hacked together parser.

Except to maintain backwards compatibility we're probably going to get new methods that only accept templates, completely circumventing any effort to stop people passing in strings. Prepared statements were the recommended way to run S

I'm sorry but any charitability was lost after his first term, if you're still voting for him then yes, you are indeed stupid. His actions literally do not benefit anyone other than a few close "friends" that make billio

I don't remember the PIN to my work SIM card. Can't wait to lose my work phone halfway through a conference / business trip because I haven't touched it in a while.

From the name alone I assumed this was going to move the browser UI around to prevent burn-in. Has anyone attempted this yet? Perhaps as a native feature?

This argument went out the window long ago. You're not absolved of responsibility just because you voted for someone who wants to hurt people instead of hurting them yourself.

Reading this thread is mind-boggling. People complaining that cheap garbage from Temu is falling apart. People proudly proclaiming that they order Chinese crap almost daily. An argument about whether one crap peddler is better than another

I've had iPhones since the 3GS and not once have I seen a convincing argument for why I should switch. I need my phone to make calls, send text messages, and to be a 2FA device. The secure "hobbled walled garden" you're

I think the dystopian Apple Intelligence commercials summed it up perfectly. It sure was a 10x improvement when AI generated the email for that lazy bum, but anyone who’s already bringing value will never see anywhere near those numbers.

The first thing I noticed in all of these announcements is that every main comparison is against M1. Why are they comparing with hardware 2-3 generations ago? I don't care whether my Intel i9 has 50x the performance of a Pentium proces

Except there is no reason for a compromise. Russia invaded Ukraine, they're free to withdraw any time they like. I wonder how anti-war you'd be if another country decided half of yours suddenly belonged to them.

De-duplication does not mean the duplicates completely disappear. If I download a deduplication utility I expect it to create some sort of soft/hard link. I definitely don’t want it to completely remove random files on the filesystem,

I really doubt there are regulations around this where you live. Recirculating vents are only going to grow more popular as they're now often built into your electric/induction hob.

Most jobs are a copy pasted CRUD app (or more recently, ChatGPT wrapper), so there is little surprise that a word salad generator trained on every publicly accessible code repository can spit out something that works for you. I'm sorry

From my experience this is not the case. If you error out 7 functions deep and only return the original error there's no chance you're figuring out where it happened. Adding context on several levels is basically a simplified stac
