I see why they do this, but man it almost feels like asking your boss for approval on where you go on vacation. Do people get dinged if their 20% time project doesn't pan out, or they lose interest later on?

I briefly worked for an “AI” company that was literally just a wrapper over Anthropic’s API. They also claimed to be HIPAA compliant despite sending 100% of their user data to these 3rd parties…

Climate change is only one reason for extinctions. Humans also tend to hunt a lot of things out of existence, like the dodo, that Colossal is also trying to bring back.

The mammoth is the big PR project but Colossal is working on a number of species, and the idea is the research will enable us to easily "de-extinct" or prop up the population of any number of species if and when they're in da

The best advice I got before moving to NYC was to download a PDF of the subway map to Books on my phone. That has saved me countless times.

Kind of a weird take. Microservices are (or at least should be) more about encapsulation of data than encapsulation of code or compute.

My last company _refused_ to buy me an air (what I use personally) and instead insisted on sending me their "standard" specced out 16" MBP and I _hate_ it. Flying with that thing to the offsite felt like I was smuggling a cin

I'm a fan of memcache specifically because ALL it can do is be a cache. No one can come in later and add a distributed queue to it. In-memory caching is also underrated, I agree. Using a hashmap and a minuscule TTL (like 5 seconds) can
