Synchronous vs asynchronous is a choice for the author of the my_operatornotify file. This module just hands the subject + body to your code. I did some experimenting with async sending and even batching in mine, but decided to remove that

Thanks for your comment and your experience. I agree that at a large scale it would be silly to receive individual emails for error messages. It would make more sense to have a dashboard with an aggregated view and statistics and everything

This is done by having multiple concentric grooves in the record. When you drop your needle on, it'll play one of the grooves which makes it seem randomly selected. Another example is Monty Python's Matching Tie and Handkerchief,
