If you have an application where you need lossless and optionally low FPS, then GIF is fine (and APNG and webp for smaller filesizes but less compatibility). But the average GIF in the wild these days is a reencoding from a video that doesn

All browsers except IE/Edge support it, so it "caught on", but I don't see it in the wild, so it hasn't caught on with web publishers.

You're right, but I think the purpose of the article is to spread word about AV1 as a comparison with h264 and vp9 through the fun example of GIFs. Most people know that at least h264 should be used for looping movie clips if your se

At similar bitrates, they would be barely disinguishable visual garbage. At similar visual qualities, they'd be 10-20x filesize. It would be useful for the author to make this point by example though.

libaom support in ffmpeg is still experimental. ffmpeg -i input.mp4 -c:v libaom-av1 -strict experimental out.webm Encoding on the CPU is less than 1fps now. rav1e is a bit faster. Hardware encoder support might be available on CPUs

This game really opened me (and possibly other people) up to indie gaming. They're definitely not the first small team to tackle a fun game concept like this (The first game companies were 2-4 people.) but maybe the most influential of

In order to correctly implement PayPal subscriptions, vendors must check the status of each users' subscription before renewing their service each billing period. If the vendor fails to do this, this is their problem, not the users

This is a good list, but many customers (i.e. more than 50% in my experience, especially if they're non-US) prefer to pay with PayPal rather than bank cards. Some don't even have bank cards. So if you use a service on this list, b

IMO the perfect fifth interval sounds boring. Equal temperament fifths at 2^(7/12) = ~1.4983 are close enough (and actually amazingly close to 3/2) to be recognized as a fifth, and they offer a nice chorus/unison effect tha

The name "license zero" might be a bit too close to the CC0 license. Maybe a rename might be a good idea? It also doesn't describe the license accurately.

"Low power" or "slow CPU" has nothing to do with it. When you have a bottleneck (GTK, X11/Wayland, video drivers) that is 100x more significant than the binding language (Python), switching languages will only buy y
