If you can do it as a one-liner in Bash, then you're not using the JVM. The benefit of using Apache Groovy for scripting is access to the JVM (and of course defining Gradle builds). If you don't need the JVM, then do it in Python

It sounds like Groovy 3 is just a forever-pending product designed to be a catchment for the stuff Groovy's backers aren't really very concerned about, or perhaps don't even want put into Groovy. It's still in alpha, bei

Can't `dep` be easily redesigned so it sits atop the `vgo` architecture? I don't know enough about `dep` to say for certain, but it seems to add extra functionality to what `vgo` will provide, and could pivot into a still-relevant

I see "transpilers" as being on a continuum ranging from IDE collapse comments and collapse blocks at one end, to full code generation syntax macros at the other end. There's a sweet spot in the middle where the productivity

Beanshell is another example for Java, and did it before Apache Groovy did. Beanshell added features like optional typing and terse property syntax to Java, then Groovy extended Beanshell by adding closures to Java. Java has made these scri

By restricting ourselves to the JVM, we can introduce Kotlin code gradually because it can run side-by-side with legacy Java code. Unlike the other JVM languages, Kotlin has been designed to work seamlessly with an IDE. It doesn't intr
