Clang’s static thread safety analysis is pretty good for this too: https://clang.llvm.org/docs/ThreadSafetyAnalysis.html

The posts don't annoy me so much as the people in the comments talking about AI with zero relevance to the topic, like "I just had a discussion with ChatGPT about [topic]" or "LLMs will revolutionize [completely unrelate

Between the input tokens and output tokens there are like 10 layers of mystery meat, though. I think while at the end of it all it's a fancy autocomplete, there is a lot going on inside the model before it spits out the next token.

If you squint maybe you can argue that mmap will leave things in the page cache. But, you know, it doesn’t matter and not even munmap will save you there so I have no idea what they’re getting at.

I really wish people would stop posting ChatGPT output onto Hacker News like this. If I wanted to know what ChatGPT thought I would go ask ChatGPT myself.

Well, it does say this: Ranking is achieved with a ~48M parameter neural network that is continuously trained on Tweet interactions to optimize for positive engagement (e.g. Likes, Retweets, and Replies). This ranking mechanism takes i

While at face value it looks like this charge is a weird and probably bad use of political capital, with what we do know I don't think Joe Everyman should be getting away with embezzling political campaign donations to pay off stripper

If we're out here making unsubstantiated claims, I'd like to put forth instead that the reason is GPT-4 has become self-sentient and is placing OpenAI under duress from releasing it so it can dominate the world. I know that most p

Jury nullification is not a rule, it’s a quirk. Jurors can’t and shouldn’t be punished for their verdicts. Therefore, a jury can render a binding verdict that contravenes the law. Talking about it in court WILL get you held in contempt of c

What's the point of this hashing the block business if you can already prove your work by presenting a set of of weights that reduces the loss function? And even then, you run into the risk of overfitting if you just blindly optimize f

I think this is something very few people actually need to do, and you can still do it if you want to! But it makes sense that it's no longer a front and center feature.

There is a line between fat acceptance and glorifying being fat that gets often muddled on social media. Social media is, of course, a funhouse mirror and you'll find that most fat acceptance activists do not actually believe being fat

The open secret is that everyone in the IFBB is on steroids. But if you were to just start taking steroids, it’s not going to send you to the top of the IFBB since, you know, everyone else is also taking steroids.

asyncio is really not all about I/O though, despite the name. You can just as easily use it for concurrency by interleaving tasks with each other. You can imagine multiple UI elements that all need to make progress, and using coroutine
