While at face value it looks like this charge is a weird and probably bad use of political capital, with what we do know I don't think Joe Everyman should be getting away with embezzling political campaign donations to pay off strippers.
There's an argument to be made that the charge is weak but definitely not that it's innocuous...
- drtz 4y agoI don't think it's that the charge is "weak," necessarily. This would have been a huge charge for someone in Trump's political position 10 or 20 years ago. Even today, pretty much any other politician would have their career destroyed for either one of the things he's being accused of by itself: sleeping with a porn star or gross misuse of campaign funds. For me, it's more that these crimes he's accused of really pale in comparison to other things we've seen Trump say and do, like the two things he was impeached for.
