I found the GL.inet gear underpowered, although I've only used their cheap stuff and finicky re: firmware -the last one had removed OpenWRT luci by default

Unless you then try to hook that Denon up via HDMI to an LG TV - eARC won't work.

I've done 600 megabit down from an iPhone here in Australia on 5G, and the latency to Sydney was about 20ms. I'd still rather have gigabit fibre. The fastest I ever saw on 4G was 300 megabit down but the latency could be 40-80ms.

Come on now, it hasn't been there since the OpenMoko, even the N900 wasn't great compared to say the N95. I have pretty much given up on the idea of running an "open source phone", unfortunately.

You don't mention the ASUS model. I haven't tried OpenWRT on any Asus device but Merlin has worked on the 56U, 68U and 88 for me. I wouldn't run OpenWRT on any device not explicitly designed for it, these days. It's just

Can a hobbyist mess around with this at all? Edit: yes, but I wonder how much trouble you'd get in putting this into a real phone? https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32900944064.html?spm=a2g0o.d...

Depends on a) what your WAN connection is and b) how open you need it to be (i.e. there are no open hardware wifi cards) My WAN port is Ethernet (the GPON conversion is done in a box I don't control). This has the advantage that pretty

I don't think I can recommend anyone use PuTTY on Windows anymore, partly because of issues like this. It might be that TortoiseGit is old, but ssh.exe should be available on Windows 10 now.
