Sure, can't rule it out. But I'd say you're pointing out a different (though in and of itself legitimate) problem than the problem of hostility in the sphere which many of us from the 70s and 80s grew up and old(ish) in. To b

True. I blame it on a trend of the 2010s: friendly people who would otherwise write moderate and/or optimistic comments a decade ago, have increasingly lost motivation to partake. This is my theory at least, I can't back it up sci

Never heard of this before, but apparently Qupzilla is a lightweight browser which uses the cross-platform Qt application framework, and it comes with a builtin ad blocker. Nice; I'm going to check this out soon.

This is a story from 2014 that, in my opinion, doesn't contribute much today. There has been somewhat of a trend to post negative feedback on StackOverflow, but a) most posts are from 2015 and earlier, and b) many commenters on HN, luc

My buddy Ryno - http://rynothebearded.com/ has a weekly podcast that focuses on music under a CC license. There are many great tunes available free of charge, and it's very strange that music falling under this license

Probably going to get slammed for saying this, especially in a time where downvoters decide for the most part what is allowed and what isn't, but here goes anyway: even though it affects many things, I simply do not care one iota when

This is the perfect reason to use unique email addresses: they enable you to know exactly what the origin of the 'leak' is, and when you disable the address, the other addresses keep working normally.

They're both faster because they don't read and write block by block. Why people keep recommending dd for stuff like this, I don't have a clue.

In my opinion, the whole idea of social networking is flawed. I don't need a network where people are interconnected ("webbed" together), I just need individual contacts and ephemeral groups. Ok, one can say that this implies

These days I do this differently; I created a subdomain that forwards all email to my main account. hackernews@foo.example.com would forward to main@example.com, and I can just filter the prefixes. That way I can use the subdomain for my ow

Darnit, I had to dial in again. Kidding of course, but once upon a time many 56k6 modem contained a bug that, upon receiving this in plain text, would cause an actual modem hangup. You could kill hundreds of IRC connections with that one.
