Technical fellow's and keeping founder's around long past their prime isn't done because those people produce some kind of valuable work that the rest of engineering cannot, it's because it's easier to pay them rath

None of those are rules that have to exist outside the simulation. If we're truly in a simulation, everything is a lie potentially.

More depressing is what happens if you do realize you're living in a simulation... You can't escape it unless the creator has the means to convert a sim to something real. You're just some shitty fake bits in a snowglobe.

I like how there is an assumption that any simulation we run inside even follows rules, physics, or mathematics we can comprehend. If this is actually a simulation it's quite possible the outside world is so completely different it bas

Not surprised. I remember a startup I was at telling employees several years ago to leave five star reviews. When I left I provided a good review as well to avoid any potential for bridge burning since at certain sizes its obvious who is le

It is an old meme, but that said, a week to setup a dev environment is pretty ridiculous. I try to have folks delivering business value even if very small within a week or two. I find it reduces a lot of new hire anxiety around performance

There is no such thing as "cheating" once you're out of school and the sooner new grads realize that the better off they will be. The real world is very much "fake it till you make it", "do whatever is necessar

Microsoft has a couple options all of which are viable IMO: 1. Appeal 2. Withdraw from the UK market and force the issue politically. Microsoft can eat the loss of the UK market for a long while if they want while forcing UK politicians to

Aren't the bugs usually in/on the mattress tho? They don't climb up the bed posts.

Have their been any successful major companies run by former CFOs? My experience here is that it is often a death sentence via a long road or stagnation.

You're confusing Oracles JDK and JRE with OpenJDK and that JRE. Oracle takes the OpenJDK and recompiles it, whitelabels it, and licenses it under their own license. The OpenJDK which is where all the development occurs is true open sou

Doubtful at this point. We have Mariner/CBL and are committed heavily to it. Has its own development and kernel teams etc. and is being pushed internally to be the Linux all 1P systems run on for supply chain reasons.
