There's not a lot of incentive to try harder. Office Space had a bit about this.

How much does someone need to live a decent middle/upper-class lifestyle in Europe? For example Ireland, UK, Spain or Portugal? I'm intrigued by this idea, but how much I'd enough, or at least enough that I could work lightly

Pretty sure you're still way more likely to die in a car accident and several other ways than on a Boeing flight. The fear around this is silly.

My understanding is it depends on Valhalla (value classes) and they basically keep updating it as that project changes.

I was sifting through old email recently and rediscovered my neopets account from early 2000s. I had to contact then to unlock it as it had been soft deactivated in the interim but they were friendly about it and I answered some questions

The problem is it's so hard to get on the HN Frontpage that stuff that does get there tends to be seen as having value but fools looking at at a foolish idea don't know any better. OPs post was constructive. It indicates there mig

Let me decode that for you: "Our lawyers and PR department advised us to reject the guy who created a superfund site because when he does it again it will be prefixed by 'MIT Educated...'"

I think it works because there's a lot of games out there that just miss the perfect mark slightly and so if someone picks up on that and smashes them all together it works out great. Game companies seem to suck at reading feedback abo

I don't quite understand Amazon's argument, isn't the NLRB operating on the delegated authority of Congress? Congress has the ability to create bodies to regulate things and basically delegate its lawmaking power to them. It

The decline of "The West" (really The US and client states err Europe) is inevitable now that Russia and China have dismantled any social unity we had. Americans all hate each other and that division is not getting reconciled. The

If we really want to go down this route we should do away with parenting. Children our are future therefore the government will be responsible for producing and raising children to meet our necessary societal workforce quotas. Parenting is

I just don't have any interest in kids. They're expensive and they require a ton of sacrifice. I'd rather travel, golf, do hobbies and generally enjoy my life. The only people that seem to want me to have babies are my parent

HN has a blindness for the vast land area of America that isn't The Bay Area, NYC, Seattle, Boston, and a handful of other insanely expensive locations. Home ownership has probably plummeted in those markets (I don't have the data

The history of Seattle is fairly interesting for those who are not aware of it. A lot of cities have rebuilt from fires, done terraforming etc, Seattle kind of took it to a whole new level.
