I think that graduate schools do not filter on passion and ability. They filter on people that can play the game, where such things can be a liability. Edit: “research” in academia now revolves around grant writing and publishing. That is

Graduate school is not about passion and pushing frontiers. It is about training new researchers. It is it not a place that I would recommend to anyone who has real passion or brilliance in any field.

This is how we got cars that require visiting the dealership to get serviced, because they have total control over the ecosystem.

Are you familiar with our employment laws? Firing someone can cause the bureaucracy to be involved.

The people fudging the metric (developers) may not be the same people that are relying on the metrics (managers). Perverse incentives at play could easily motivate this kind of shenanigan.

Why have rules (or laws) if they don’t enforce them? Or only enforce them selectively when they feel it necessary, such as when not doing so would threaten your stock price (or re-election campaign)? Maybe I just answered my own question?

It’s interesting and worthy of genuine applaud for being a good starting point for further work. That said, I am more interested in what size model this could manage while producing “just enough” tokens per second to work at a conversationa

Works for a bit in iOS Orion but buttons now stop the counters. Reload rewinds progress. Saw another comment had the link to the GitHub project, so went to file a bug. Stopped in my tracks when I saw over 200 open issues.

Yup. If every person that got misdirected by an ad went into the offenders business and raised hell, they would probably decide that it wasn’t worth it.

This kind of fraud has become so pervasive. People cheat the system and then get rewarded. Everyone else sees it and decides to follow suit. The enshittification of society.

Automated transforms like this seem risky at best and dangerous at worst, due to one fundamental truth about computer software: garbage in, garbage out. The transform can be perfectly correct, but any bugs in the input will be translated al

Siemens has acquired countless smaller businesses over the years, including some large ones (e.g. Mentor Graphics). It is entirely plausible to believe those purchases included IP such as this.

I hope they get crushed like bugs with sanctions. Wasn’t disbarment on the table as consequences for this kind of chicanery? At this point, these lawyers should have known better. Throw the book at them.
