I'd argue that if you are really interested, you can follow a few academics and read up on their papers etc. Of course, that's a big undertaking but it's the only alternative I can think of given the incentives for pushing

Does your org have teams for InfoSec? Something tangential like Offensive Security[0] certs might help portray interests beyond your core work but not too far removed either :) . Plus the certs are really really good as per people who work
