I could be wrong, but it also feels like hotels have stepped their game up a bit with the rise of Airbnb. Prices are good, and even cheap rooms often have microwaves, fridges, and beds that aren’t absolute torture.

The Mac App Store is pretty terrible. I wouldn’t trust them to do a better job with CLI programs than they currently are with desktop ones.

The special thing that's going on with SBF is that it's a high-profile story. That sounds like a dumb tautology, but I think it's true. Most people don't know much about white collar crime because it just doesn't co

Agreed, it seems like a natural progression. The barrier for creating a podcast is incredibly low, which is why initially there wasn't this type of middleman. But monetizing a podcast, especially to the point that you can quit your day

I haven’t used it much, but as an outsider it’s pretty hard to judge how much the criticism is exaggerated. People also hate Slack with a burning hatred passion, while I’ve used it for many years with very few issues.

What if there are no apartments in your area? Or you have a large family but can’t get a mortgage at the moment? There are plenty of legitimate reasons to rent a home.

90% of devs who like to talk about their salary online are in SF, and they forget that they are outliers. Even though the salary was probably a big part of why they moved there.

I would also argue that it's not due to a lack of funding, just misplaced priorities. Even one course on financial literacy would go a long ways.

I disagree that "trads" are counter-culture, just looking at the numbers that is pretty ridiculous. But you could consider the more extreme groups counter culture, like alt-right, q-anon, incels, 8-chan or wherever they are now. T

I'm not saying that accepting those facts is arrogant, but that there is a subset of insufferable atheists that try to belittle religious people.

Awesome! This is a great article. I've been thinking lately about how ORMs are basically a band-aid meant to fix the weaknesses of SQL, so it's great to see people trying to solve the problem from the bottom up.

I agree with lots of the points here. However one of the great strengths of the SQL family is the FOSS history. I doubt something proprietary is ever going win everyone over. At least I hope not.

Do they really pay influencers? I’m skeptical. There seem to be a limitless supply of megafans who will defend the bad decisions of corporations because they’ve invested their personality in it, not because they’re getting paid.

A query builder is much more flexible. For example, in some cases there might be an additional condition you want to add to the WHERE clause. You can't do that with parameterized queries, so you'd have to make a new query for ever

That's true. I guess what I have in mind are ORMs like Active Record, which adds all sorts of magical layers on top the query building, but still somehow gets the some of the basics wrong, like being able to select arbitrary values eas
