For real. There were people debating online about whether a shot in the trailer was real or not, but it was someone’s arm and a leather harness thing. Why does that even need to be CG? Literally paint someone’s arm blue.

This is definitely true, but I also think it's overused in typical UI components. I often see patterns where some user event triggers a state change, which triggers a useEffect hook. In most cases, you could instead have your event han

It should be compared with other comment sections, not newspapers. I agree though, this is a weird take.

I think the Wilhelm scream is just annoying. It's an unnatural and goofy scream. I still appreciate it as a tradition though.

It's been many years since I deleted my Facebook, but it was absolutely hidden like you describe. As far as I could tell there was no way to navigate directly to it from the site itself.

I didn't know about ViewComponent until now, it looks more appealing to me than Rux. Dealing with transpilers is a necessary evil in JS land, I really don't want to bring that headache into my Ruby code.

To disagree with my own point a bit, it’s unfortunate that the controls HTML5 added look different in every browser, and can’t be styled with CSS at all.

It would be so great if there were more built-in interactive elements like tabs, modals, and tooltips. How many times have these incredibly basic things been re-created?

I don’t know if you’re trying to make an authoritarian argument but it sounds like one. Yeah I’m worried about government abuses. That’s a pretty fundamental part of democracy

I don’t think this is considering the full picture. It would be great if we could magically eliminate nazi ideology, but is the best way to do that really to hand the government extra censorship powers? Do you think the government is going

I think it may be possible for someone to write an interesting book with the assistance of an LLM, but what this article is warning about is people dumping tons of low-effort AI generated content into the market. Those are just not going to

The challenge is making it fun. I'd compare it to procedural generation. There are some big success stories there, and lots of games where it just generates infinite bland content.

I can see that, but also being out of the loop on social media is incredibly fleeting. If you haven't seen Star Wars you'll feel left out of some conversations, if you don't know about the long nose dog meme or whatever, just

This isn’t too different from requiring students to write essays. No one actually needs another essay about Shakespeare or whatever, and ChatGPT could do it for you, but the point of the exercise is to learn to write. It’s the process, not
