I feel conflicted on it. I've abused routes in that way, but I've also been confused or encountered bugs because I didn't notice the conflict.

Yeah they are taking a viral clip of bad CGI and conflating it with current AI controversies. And although it’s Disney, these Disney channel movies have always been made on the cheap. Nothing to see here folks.

This is why the conclusion of the study makes sense to me. I enjoy my short commute as a buffer between work and life, but sometimes I just don't want to, so I stay home occasionally. Also, I think some WFH zealots on HN forget that ot

Ok, the thread here is someone talking about a 6 to 21 minute commute. IMO that's not a significant amount of time saved.

What's so bad about a short commute like that? It's good for you to physically get up and look around, and mentally to either clear your head or listen to a podcast/music.

Yeah, if somehow Basic Income works out, this will be less concerning. But I think that's the harder problem to tackle.

Like I say, I'm not against developing technology. Conflating AI and medicine seems nonsensical. As another example, what about nuclear weapons? Does anyone think that giving humans the ability to self-annihilate was a good development

What labor is it saving though? Seems like the bulk of what we can do with AI is create inferior creative works, since we can't trust it to do anything important for the foreseeable future.

This is just my cynical opinion, but I think humanity would be better off if we all just agreed to throw our AI research in the garbage. What is the upside to all of this? Worker A does less work, Worker B loses their job, and Worker A cont

> “Population” might just be “those who go to this kind of thing” and not all humanity Yeah this is the key. The audience is a group of people interested in performance art. They didn't show up for a 6 event where nothing happens.

Yeah I agree. It's easy to list some negatives of social media (doomscrolling, bullying, building unrealistic expectations for your life), but the simple ability to connect many people all over the world is pretty hard to argue against

> Social media is terrible, why can't we quit it? Is it though? Don't you think maybe the billion of social media users around the world are getting some value out of it? It's a pretty shallow take.

Honestly I think any LOTR fan should be so grateful for those movies. It could have gone wrong in so many ways. At one point it was supposed to be a single movie. It could have deviated completely from the books, it could have been super ch

Makes sense. In some ways there's less magic to ruby, because it's not using macros, templates, reflection, generics etc. In other languages you're stepping out of "normal" code into "special" code to make
