Maybe there are “hit pieces” because there actually are downsides to working remote? For the average HN user it’s probably great, but there are plenty of reasons why it could suck. Personality type, job type, living conditions, internet op

Here’s my hot take: because of the deeply held cultural belief that screen time is bad and books are good. Certainly there are truths behind that, but I think we need to realize that videos and even video games can be informative, uplifting

This took me too long to learn. We're told over and over to "be yourself," but sometimes you have to make an effort to be like everyone else. I see in the author and in myself sometimes a weird sense of pride in having unusua

People are real salty here. Yeah, being a walking billboard is pretty silly, but what if we like the way the logo looks? There's a reason The Misfits are more successful with merch than music: because people like to wear stuff with awe

If you look at the popular vote then this is clearly wrong in two ways. Rich land and business owners don't make up half the population. And if you're implying that most religious people vote republican, then they should be absolu

There are like 6 different places where you can rent just one movie to stream for a couple of days. Big streaming packages like Netflix aren't the only option.

You can rent nearly any movie in existence for less than 5$, is piracy really the best option. Also, most people don’t care about DRM if they even know what it is.

This might be blasphemous among LOTR fans, but I wish the Tolkien family would work with other authors to complete these stories. You can still publish all the drafts and notes you want, but I would love to see them written in a more digest

I would recommend those to anyone here that hasn't seen them. I think this requires a big shift in community thinking. Programmers are trained in universities to throw OOP principles at every problem, and the DRY principle has deeply t

This question is going to make me sound like a jerk, but why do you want to write your back-end in JS? Deno looks like a great improvement over node.js, but I don't feel compelled to use it. It seems like people jumped to node based on

The point of the article is that experts don't always hang out on the internet. There's a small cross-section of people who are truly experts at something, and also blog or discuss it in online forums. So yeah, you can talk to peo
