I tried to create a website that would play this. Basically an ad hoc surround sound. The theory was that people would load it on 4 different devices, and one play button would start them simultaneously through websocket messages. Unfortuna

Sure, but I don’t believe the point of these arguments is search for an answer, it’s to make yourself look edgy and smart. Which is probably why it’s a popular ideology for movie villains.

What I hate about these edgelord philosophies (see antinatalism also) is that they present a difficult problem but intentionally provide no solution. Like what do you suggest? The human race collectively ends itself? A global authoritarian

IMO downvoting is useful for comments that don't warrant a reply, or where replying would only encourage more bad behavior.

Also the quantity of users and comments. You can still see comments that have been downvoted by scrolling a bit. On Reddit, unpopular comments will be buried and require extra clicks to access.

Getting downvoted is not at all the same as having comments deleted, or getting banned, which is incredibly common on some subreddits. Also not giving new users access to downvotes hopefully means that those downvoting are somewhat good cit

I want to believe in UBI, but it seems like such a massive stretch and risk. IMO, our time would be better spent on targeting specific issues: healthcare, housing, food, education. We've made strides towards universal health care, but

Another benefit of UBI over paying only those below the poverty line is that you aren't de-incentivized from trying to make more money at any point.

One of the points is "I have already implemented my Plan B in case my solution to my current problem doesn’t work." So that's not what they're advocating. Though I think they're 100% wrong on that point, and most ma

I don't really agree with this. It seems to be based on the assumption that the entire purpose of school is to prepare you for a job. Obviously that's important, but education also simply enriches your life. Some of the electives

The fact that their Code of Ethics is a joke does not imply that the project is in some way toxic. Most developers don't need a Code of Conduct to tell them how to behave because they're not 10 years old.

Do you truly wonder that? Unless someone takes legal action fair use doesn’t take effect. Why would anyone bother to take legal action against them? This is essentially an art project.

My projects tend to have vastly more dev dependencies as well. Especially with something like create-react-app. It's a pretty sad ecosystem.

What exactly is fragile about vim/neovim? I'd argue that they are incredibly stable, being as old as they are. For another point I don't see being brought up, I love the .vimrc file. You can version control your entire editor

Between net/http, database/sql, and html/template, you can make an MVC app. I agree with you that doing so isn't necessarily a worthy goal, but it provides a standard for all web frameworks/libraries to start with,

I don't really see how cloudflare fits on that list. There are dozens (hundreds?) of other DNS services. 8chan and kiwifarms have found different providers.

Agreed, writing production-grade, user-facing software is slow, which is what we spend lots of our time on. On the other hand, writing small programs to automate boring stuff can be incredibly fast.
