I agree with the premise of this article, but I was disappointed to see that none of the suggestions included focusing on web application development instead of web site development. I started Brightbit ( http://brightbit.com ) 2 years a

From my experience working with PHP for over 13 years (since PHP 3 was new), I can say your article is mostly true, and I have definitely seen the invisible-image-as-a-poor-mans-cron trick in production a time or two. The only nitpick is th

I just checked out the product and it looks good so far. This could be a nice step in-between PaaS and running your own servers, which I'm guessing is the sweet spot you guys are going for. The main (and obvious) downside is that I'm a litt

I think a raw feature comparison wouldn't quite capture it, because nearly all micro-frameworks have essentially the same features on a list or comparison grid. I think the real "magic" of Bullet requires using it a bit to fully understand

I was in a place like that straight out of college as well. It was for a trade magazine. The job description had lots of programming requirements but it turned out to be a basic "Webmaster" type job that only really required basic HTML/CSS

Man, the more I see and experience things like this in MySQL, the more impressed (horrified?) I am at how it ever became popular. So glad I've made the switch to Postgres.

How did this get on Hacker News? This is one man's opinion of what MIGHT happen within some vaguely specified time in the future, and it's quite a bold assertion. There is overwhelming evidence that the chances of us detecting alien life wi

If you are doing cURL calls as a part of testing functionality, you may want to consider using a tool like Frisby.js ( http://frisbyjs.com/ ) to create a suite of automated tests that involve HTTP calls.

I've worked with Titanium extensively, and a lot of this article is just plain wrong regarding Titanium. It seems like Sapan just read some older docs or articles on Titanium and did a write-up for traffic. * Titanium uses the V8 JavaScript

I have worked with Titanium extensively and I'd say if you do it right, you have a LOT more than only 50% re-useable code -- probably closer to 80-90% that works perfectly cross-platform. Of course it depends a lot on what UI elements the p

It's amusing to see threads asking why moderators change post titles without notice, and then see highly opinionated submission titles like "Time to stop using Skype" that don't reflect the source article at all. THIS is why post titles get

User accounts seem like such a core part of any application, and such a huge point of privacy concern. They can be a bit of a pain to manage, and emphasizing a premium level of security might gain some customers for you, but I still have to

I took a look at RubyMotion and came away pretty disappointed. It seems like the target market is for people who already write apps in Objective-C, but want to write them in Ruby instead. The larger and more lucrative market is for people w

Monitization will be from SaaS style tiered plans that churches will pay for depending on push message volume and stored audio files. The app will always be free to use and churches can add info, locations, and events free.

I thought the exact same thing as soon as I saw the URLs. This could happen with ANY web service that returns URLs, even a REST one with a more HATEOAS-style approach.
