I'm probably going to buck how HN feels about it but I'm somewhat disappointed in this news. I get there's often valid use cases for this such as kiosks that need current version stability without sacrificing security. New AP

There’s fixed components to the cost as well as variable ones. Storage/CDN distribution is relatively fixed. I would say so is access to developer tools and APIs. What’s variable are services that an app may take advantage of, such as

Isn't that where the regular iPad and iPad Air come in? I know a couple of graphic designers that could get by with the regular, consumer iPads but the Pro is far more ideal for them.

Not sure how macOS does it but iOS has notification service and content extensions. The original notification in itself is pretty lightweight. However, the service extension allows an app to perform additional downloading and data retrieval

The Apple example was proven to be inaccurate. The loss of access to email wasn't due to him not paying his Apple Card; it was for not paying for his iCloud services. In other words, his shutoff could have happened if he had his iCloud

There's value in in-person meetings that online classes aren't good at or simply can't provide so it becomes a trade off. Cost isn't much of an issue. iOS developers tend to be paid well and even then it's often a r

Is it a regression, though? In the days of Windows, malware was rampant. There was no sense of sandboxing so installs could get deeply embedded and hard to purge. There was certainly the uncertainty of the validity of software when download

This honestly doesn't surprise me at all. I used to work at Wayfair and the average age there was staggeringly lower compared to everywhere else I've been. It's easy to foresee how the employee walkout that they had a number

NATO was never about invading another country. It's purely intended to be a defensive pact (the whole Kosovo incident in the 90s notwithstanding). And that wasn't exactly Europe's response to Trump. Defense spending by Europe

If not the US, then who? Trump, for all his faults, was spot on about the Europe's lack of fiscal participation in NATO. They were enjoying the privileges of what you described without ever worrying about the need for protecting it bec

I’m a long time fan of Don’t Starve Together and this news is just disappointing. What frustrates me most, though, is that China is able to operate here in the US independently whereas it’s much more likely it won’t be reciprocated.

I mean, isn’t part of the reason we have comments is to discuss opinions? The majority (though not all) of the comments I’m reading here are saying that there’s not enough information to form a good, educated one.

They’re two barely related problems that require different solutions. Better-designed cities doesn’t do anything for the millions of Americans living out in the burbs. And Apple isn’t empowered to make changes to cities; that’s up to govern

If you’ve seen the NSFW video of the protestor getting shot in the neck while in the Capitol building, you would have noticed someone next to her holding a semi-auto rifle (AR-15, my best guess).

PCs didn’t have as long of life in the 90’s to the early 2000’s, either. In 2008 only 33% of PCs were over 3 years old. Today it’s over 60% (haven’t found a more exact statistic). iPads were going through a similar maturing process and rapi
