Yes, there's also the (incorrect) assumption that decent gear costs bucket loads of money. In fact, you can get used decent gear (not great, but playable) for about the same cost as a new junk starter kit. When you are just starting, i

Came to say the same. I've seen good developers that are working on front-end, back-end, and full-stack. The key is that they are a good developer. Where they focus usually has more to do with the organizational structure and its value

Here's a fun one about `this` that you might not know. When running `eval`, `this` refers to the `this` in the calling context. Unless you alias the method. Then it refers to the global context. class Test { eval() {

Not really. They are close. There are places you can live that are a reasonable commute to both. Also, I know people that make the commute in both directions. MARC train helps. Source: I live and work in Baltimore.

This is a trend that I've maintained for 15+ years. I don't expect it to change anytime soon. I am subject to them dropping content that I care about, but anecdotally, I don't recall that happening with anything I listen to i

It depends on the product and the person. Google Music has saved me money. I listen to quite a bit of music and was averaging about $200/year on buying CDs. Now, I average about $50/year + my $120/year subscription. As bonus

If you don't need high throughput and otherwise don't have a reason to add a separate technology to the stack just to have a queue, SQL can make a great, simple and reliable queue! * Postgresql and Oracle with skip locked * MS SQL

I don't believe the parent meant a physical shutter button, but a specific area on screen designated as the shutter button instead of the much easier, "anywhere".

This. Brewing temp and serving temp are often confused. I like hot brewed coffee, but I like cold brewed better. I do not like iced coffee. I've been given confused glances at coffee shops when I ask for a cold brew coffee hot. :)

Where I went to college, UMBC, Computer Engineering covered enough of Electric Engineering and Computer Science that it set you up for either a career or further education in either. In my opinion, it was the best value.

My primary reason is orchestration. By putting it inside Docker it runs like every other application in our Kubernetes cluster. If everything you run is Java, it might not make sense, but in a polyglot, the uniformity can be really benefici

The key piece is that you don't ask blind questions, you ask more about a topic that they brought up or expressed interest in. "I listen to podcasts on the way to work." "Me too! What kind of podcasts do you listen to?&q

You don't need to refactor the existing code. You can change the calling code. // Promisifying a standard callback const myAsyncMethod = Bluebird.promisify(myCallbackMethod); // Or if you have weird c

Bluebird is more than just a promise implementation. It is also a general purpose promise utility library. E.g., providing `promisify` wrappers for callback driven code and functional collection methods like `map` / `filter` / `re

In my opinion, these are the major ones: 1. Promises are a value. They can be passed to other functions. This simplifies a lot of control flow. 2. The `.then` method on a promise is similar to `flatMap` in other languages / libs. The n

There are only methods that I'm aware of: - Exposing the secrets on a (http) server that the Dockerfile can use to fetch - What we use: Create a one time use secret that is destroyed after the image is built and before it is pushed.
