The proper name would be then Android/Linux, I.e. Linux kernel with a non-gnu userspace. Either way, Linux the kernel has won everywhere but the desktop: server space, handheld, embedded, etc. In my house there is not a single device w

In the oop age of arch I felt like I had no mouth (and I had to scream). This book, as well as the data oriented design approach, is what made things right for me.

Both times my, ehm, good friend bought a house in uk the docs included a very thorough list of things that had to stay, as well as things that HAD to go. Does England count as Europe?

Isn't SDL itself is quite minimal already? I mean, it is definitely not high-level in any sense of the word.

This is a great article explaining the reasoning of both sides of the battle. And it is a very important turning point: riscv getting traction, desktop and mobile arms everywhere, x86 crisis in general.

What's even more interesting is that even the great pyramid itself wasn't the beginning of it all, they built it in the later Old Kingdom period. And we know so much because of the unusual culture of having to carve out one's

Dailymail is dailymail but this particular article is boring. Things like this happen every year, thanks to both the tomb building tradition and the climate of the region. Middle kingdom did thrive about 4k years ago, this is the height of

And Greek alphabet is sort of a base for both major groups of European alphabets, Latin and Cyrillic. Can we just say greek-based alphabets?

No Objective-C for me. I was always living in the Linux/x86 world as long as I remember. Isn't it like C with dynamic dispatch bolted on..? As strange as it may sound, I do know quite a lot about Smalltalk implementation details

It's supertempting to remember my path: 1. Basic on ZX Spectrum around 5-6 years old. Draw circle and a box and a triangle and... Look ma, a rocket! 2. Pascal around 10-12. I can write a loop! and a function. But anything longer than 1

Coming from higher level languages, even C, it is actually very mind-opening to see stack as just 2 numbers (stack base, stack top). Not reading about it in theory but seeing in assembly how the program literally decrements the top addres

This is just not correct. Dynamic systems like the ones based on javascript or Java or scheme have received A LOT of attention in the last 10-20 years. In fact, javascript does start fairy quickly. The usual solution to the startup problem

chunk-edit is an Emacs package that lets you edit code chunks from various sources within a single buffer. It provides syntax highlighting and the ability to save changes back to the original files or buffers.

Well, Rust makes one BIG bet, and then keeps adding everything else, just like C++ keeps doing. The thing is: people don't want everything. For the kind of things that are expected to be build in C and C-inspired languages it just does

My point is not that use-after-free or other resource allocation problems do not exist. The point is that in vanilla C any solution one might come up with is too fragile. Reasonable patterns require a very, very steady hand to work (which m

Tbh, use after free was never a big problem for me (in old school C). Random integer promotion rules, weird puzzle-like type declaration rules, the macro mess, the crazy WG14 reasoning in general. No, use after free was NEVER a problem. So
