We have to account for other improvements like better fertilizers, pesticides and the green revolution which would lower food prices independent of automation and migrant labour.

Maybe the issue is that how much you weigh is a terrible metric for how fit you are.

>There is no shortage of labor, but a shortage of people willing to work at the wages on offer for the job. I wonder if this is a self fulfilling cycle. I mean if migrant labor and automation were unavailable would we close all the farm

I've tried typsit and Ive really been enjoying it. It's very easy to learn and easy to use. It's a new project so it can't as of yet replace the functionality of LaTeX's many packages. However it is good for quick

I don't know much about caddy. I'm looking to learn more in the future. I hear many people cheering their automatic HTTPS. To me this seems like a strange reason to choose something else over nginx. I mean HTTPS is pretty much

It seems to me that the evil of having haphazard laws that are enforced arbitrarily on discretion is worse than the evil of heritage loss. This solution is much worse than the cure. Yes it's hard for governments to write narrowly tai

I think it's a theory that should be regarded with suspicion. It too neatly aligns with modern world views and environmental concerns. That's not to say it's false, it may turn out to be true. Just as should tread carefull

Maybe that's just what happens to companies that have been around a long time. They go on maintenance mode. You don't see coke or visa innovating much either. It seems like optimizing for innovation makes sense with new upstart

This is where I disagree. I think techonology can solve it, and policy can also solve it. But I think the movement has been hijacked by people with other agendas that differ from solving climate change. And I think you can sort of glimp

That's the other reason it's going to fail, the dishonesty. Frankly I don't remember the weather being that much different when I was a kid. And aside from my personal observations or views, the bigger issue is climate and

I think the climate movement is going to fail soon. This mentality of find villans and blame and attack them instead of looking for productive solutions isn't sustainable for a movement. I don't know about the future of the clim

Good point - the graph being US only means it misses offshoring manufacturing jobs to places like China. We can't assume that the loss of manufacturing jobs was solely caused by automation

Could this be due to the ban of sulfur in shipping fuels that was passed recently (2023 or 2022 I think). Sulfur I believe changes the reflectivity of clouds and has a cooling effect. Would explain a huge heating effect immediately after

I used to believe this. And I still prefer density and think that urban sprawl is bad for mental health, finances and the environment. However I no longer believe it's the cause of the housing crisis. Perhaps it contributes in Europe

I don't buy that idea, an economy full of very poor people who can barely afford anything is not sustainable not at the national level and not at the global level. Countries with very low wages are also countries with very low producti
