Please consider why we don't have a single codec that works OOTB. H264 has all sorts of nasty licensing stuff, which Daala is not subject to. It should also avoid all valid patent claims because it is based on lapped transforms as oppo

I'm not sure you realize how different Daala is from any other video codec in usage. It's ALSO royalty-free with a permissive FOSS license. It will also ideally be significantly better than anything else on the market.

Check out his fantastic demo pages for a look at the work being done on Daala. http://people.xiph.org/~xiphmont/demo/daala/demo1.shtml This is great news!

actually, it would be way more complex to establish a self-sufficient colony on the moon. The moon lacks a lot of basic resources that mars provides, albeit in different ratios than earth does.

I just took a train from Shanghai down to 黄山. While I can't confirm there are entirely empty cities (I don't doubt it though), There were massive modern housing complexes... with no one in them. It was so surreal.

SpaceX does not patent any of their stuff for the same reason; it can be stolen by people outside of the country and the patent is essentially directions on how to do so.

I've never understood the concept of multiple users in a browser. Isn't that what accounts on my computer are for? Isn't this already a long solved problem?

Both of those are solved problems, and actually have been for quite a while. You should check out the Mars Direct plan proposed by Robert Zubrin. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mars_Direct

Oooh Exciting stuff! I've been following openworm off and on for a while now. The projects should be extremely complementary. I hope they communicate. (This projects is going to collect a totally new dataset)

Have you considered integrating something like Persona? While I have never like FB sign up, this is the exact situation where I would be tempted to use it. Possible interest, but I don't really wanna go through the sign-up. I keep hoping to

Can you elaborate on that? OpenID was designed to be browser-independent. Persona is essentially a distributed openID with some extra browser integration. Sure Mozilla doesn't support openID, but I'm unsure what you would want them to do...
